collecting? a pointless question

Let's see... just about EVERYTHING....

We're both horders of childhood things and things that we grew up with that we just can't seem to depart with. So there's a lot there that could be rid of, but that requires way too much patients to deal with.
I'm a huge mickey fan... lots a bedroom decor and I love collecting plushes. I have about a couple dozen of the mini dressed up mickey plushes, the big mickey and big minnie from DW, and a big mickey from the DS, as well as several of mickey's teddy.
I can't forget all my woven throws from Disney... if I see a new one, I must have it. Although I don't have every one Disney has come out with I do have quite a few and always keep my eyes open for new ones.
Overall I love collecting plushes and was one of the things I brought into the relationship.
Kari's a huge Flounder fan... as to why we have a Flounder bathroom and anything that has flounder on it. As long as Ariel isn't too prominant in the picture.
We both love video games, and I have quite a few of very old computer gaming systems from the early 80's as well. Plus both of us working at Gamestop did not help. Lets just say we need a very big entertainment unit to hold all of it and then some.
She also loves books and has multiple copies of books too. She's big on garage sales and flea markets where we can get books for about a buck or two. As well as gaming magazines, strategy guides, Game Informer, and Nintendo power mag.
Board games. One entire wall full of shelving (that I put up myself) is covered in board games... of course we have like 10 different versions of monopoly.

Worst of all... we have four dining sets. 1 is an every day use that was Kari's that we used when we first lived together. 2 is a coke christmas set that we bought at wal-mart for 75% off, setting for 8 for like 15$ or something. 3 is my great grandmother's fine china, I just recently got it from my aunt, and it's a service for 12 (whole nine yards). 4 is our latest every day set of mickey pieces dish set, which we have just about all the kitchen accessories for.

Answer one question - have you rid yourself of a book and then bought it again later??? Only THEN are you a true bibliophile (or idiot in my case!) :lmao::rotfl:

Tasha99 - ahhh...I have true respect for a discriminating vulture fan. :) :woohoo:

Yes! I also have multiple copies of some books because I will not be able to find it when I want to read it and get another one. Then I will find the first copy in a bizarre place! I have also replaced books because I read them so much the covers came off or they ripped in half. (Note: 900 page fantasy books do not make good paperbacks).

Guilty here too!!! I have three copies of "Cops and lovers" by linda castillo. One to save, one to read, and one to loan. its my favorite book, oddly enough my favortie chapter is easy to find, theres a built in crease.

Flying babyb: You can appreciate this. My favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast. Other than the whole pretty thing, I am Belle. I still remember seeing it in theatres, when they walk into the library. Ever since then I have always said that one day when I am a famous author I will build a scaled down replica of that library! I'm going to need it at the rate my book collection is going!

Many things Disney---but especially Disney license plates (75), Sorcerer's Apprentice stuff (50), and Disney bisque (100).

I have thousands of books, but I deny I am a collector!;) I buy and sell books.

I've been collecting animal Christmas tree ornaments for decades! They're a great thing to collect because they stay packed away 11 months of the year so they can't take over my house.

I collect images of the Bridge of Lions in St Augustine, Florida. There are a lot of artists in St Augustine so everytime I go there I sweep through a few galleries and the Plaza where they sell their works and pick up prints I love. My house and my office at work are decorated with all these beautiful framed prints!

When I first discovered Ebay in the late 1990s I decided to collect metalware sugar-creamer-tray tea sets. I live in a midcentury modern house and I collected a bunch of wild metal tea sets (brass with lucite handles, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, etc.), I keep them on an open shelf in my kitchen and they are INCREDIBLY cool.:cool2:

I collect key chains and lighthouses. Sometimes I can get lighthouse keychains and fill both of them at once. My DH is easy he collects WWII movies and anything with John Wayne. He loves the Duke.

So what do you collect and why?

Seascapes and vintage farm/house paintings, very old prints and antique postcards.

The seascapes are for our great room, farm/house paintings hang in our dining room, old prints are framed and scattered throughout the house, the antique postcards are waiting to be framed and displayed and/or put into a scrapbook.

I've quite a large collection of antique dolls. They are true antiques, some being over 120+ years old. I collect them for their beauty and for reasons I honestly can't put in to words!

I've been addicted to antique dolls my entire life!
If only they could talk, the stories they would tell!
************

I have a very large collection of vintage "Shiny Brite" Christmas ornaments. They are gorgeous!

I also have a collection of snowmen/women ornaments that hang exclusively on one of our Christmas trees.

I own a lot of other like items, such as antique books, history related items; some I acquired, some were inherited.

The list goes on and on.

Like most women, I collect shoes, clothes and jewelry. Does that count? ;)

I have really toned down my collections the last few years. I don't know if you would call it collecting music but I have over 1000 CD's. I love music and prefer listening to music over watching TV. I used to collect books but I gave up a huge number of my books when we bought this house, and only kept my favorites. There are still four bookcases of "favorite" books though. I collect Christmas ornaments from our vacation trips. I LOVE my ornaments and leave my Christmas tree up from Thanksgiving to New Years Day so I can enjoy them longer. I have a gorgeous tree. :goodvibes

I used to collect wolf "stuff" for many years, but have now toned that collection down to just my favorites, and I no longer buy new items. I also collect Arabian horse stuff, but have become much more picky as I get older. I used to collect magnets on vacations but have gotten rid of most of those too. Oh, and I also collect arrowheads and American Indian artifacts, but only the ones DH and I find. :)

I collect Disney knifes. Not the cake or pastry ones. the old davy crocket style etc... I even have a tinkerbell pen knife.

Mikeeee

barbies! i've been collecting them since the second happy holidays doll came out in 89. on top of that i also buy the barbie hallmark ornaments. i have too many to even begin to count. i keep them all in rubbermaid totes and think i have more barbies than the kids have toys! :lmao:

i also have a collection of keychains. and i buy the disney pins that i want when i'm down there.

Bells, Angels, pins and I used to collect those awesome Disney figurines, but they don't make the glass (I think) ones anymore :sad2:

Old dairy items, like milk bottles, creamers, butter churns. My husband started buying me Willow Tree figurines a couple years ago and I've got quite a collection of them.

I collect Disney's Classics Collection. Not just for the sake of collecting them, though. Only the ones that I really love and only once in a while 'cause they're not cheap!

I guess you could say we (DH does it, too) collect books, too. Though I don't really think of that as a collection, per se. I mean, they're for reading and enjoying... They're useful!

I also have an obscenely large collection of makeup... :ssst::blush: I don't know how it happened... But it really is beyond silly.

Oh that's one I forgot. I love the awillow Tree Angels.

Disney Pins because they make me feel good and remind me of all the fun times my DH, kids, and I have had at WDW. I have 1200+ and you can see them all at www.pinpics.com. Under th Site Navaigation area (clear to the left), click on "My PinPics" and enter the user id "sundancepass" in the "View Collection" box. There are almost all there!

I collect shot glasses. I have about 20 of them. Everytime I go to a new place I get a shot glass. I don't even take shots but I have lots of shot glasses.:confused3

I collect Mister Potato Heads I got the disney one and then people just started giving me all different ones.

I have a lunchbox collection and I did collect pez, but that's tapered off.

I am a terrible packrat. Today I did get rid of the books I won't read again, mostly Nicholas Sparks (too miserable) and dollar books that are terrible.
