So I used to shop their catalog occasionally because they always had really cute clothes. I learned over time that the quality was very hit and miss and they tend to be expensive. When they closed their retail stores I happened to be in Branson and picked up a couple of really cute things.

So a couple of weeks ago I got a catalog in the mail. They had a really cute square necked t-shirt and basket weave mesh skirt. So I ordered the outfit and got it yesterday. I really should have know better. The shirt, while cute in the photos (they only picture it laying flat and not on a model) Has a really odd fit to it. The skirt is an odd length (also not pictured on a model -just by itself) it hits me above the ankle so it looks like a too-short maxi dress. I'm average height so it's not that I'm too tall for it...

I should have known better...

Coldwater Creek declared bankruptcy and went out of business. Within a year, another company acquired them and is using their name and attempting to market the same way (new catalogs are very similar to the old ones). I think the clothes look a little odd in the catalog and I'm fearful of ordering them. Thanks for sharing your experience!

yup-the new company bought the name and intellectual rights b/c it had a good reputation. the clothes are no longer made by/associated with the original company (they were fairly local to us), and are probably made by the same sources as the company's other holdings which include hot topic (whose clothing is shoddy in my opinion). they were known for their quality and I for one will miss them (purchased allot of work clothes through them).

I loved Coldwater Creek. I'm sorry to see their name and reputation be ruined by junky quality.

Did not know the name had been bought out. They're under the umbrella that's responsible for the fashion stylings of Hot Topic? Talk about culture clash.

I loved their clothes for years, but then I would try something on (in a store, before buyout) and think "seriously?". A few months ago I was coming out of a doctor's office and a lady coming in complimented my jacket. I told her it was an old CC; we had a moment of silence.

Although it's technically a different company now, many of the buyers and merchandisers are the same as before.

DW used to love shopping in that store, at Christmas I would get her a CC giftcard. I think some of their stores used to have a wooden rocker. I loved those chairs.:)
