Things were looking up! Our son-in-law was back in the land of the living, and our grandson was recovered enough to go out in the sunshine in his stroller for a couple of hours. Our daughter, "the mom", had to stay back with DGD, who spent another fussy, uncomfortable night. No one but Mommy will do when you're sick, but she and her husband were going to trade off in the afternoon so she could spend a little time in Epcot, her favorite park.
So, with the exception of the baby and the mom, the rest of us walked over to Epcot in time for the 9 am opening. Since no one wanted to chance riding Mission Space on this trip, my husband hurried over to the fastpass line for Test Track to get some fastpasses for our stuck-behind daughter and anyone else who wanted to use them in the afternoon. The rest of us walked a bit more sedately over to Test Track, along with everyone else at Epcot! By the time we reached the ride the stand-by line looked to be at least a half an hour long (and my husband was still in the fastpass line), so I stayed with DGS while showing the adults the single rider line (no one in it!!). We got a baby swap pass for "Bopa" and me, but ended up not using it, since we wanted to move on to other filling-up-fast attractions. My husband and I were much more excited on this trip to just be spending time with our kids and grandkids than riding on the rides, so this wasn't any hardship for us.
We spun past the "Ball" to see if we could get on easily, but the line was longer than I've ever seen it on our spoiling trips during the lighter Disney seasons, so we decided to wait until later and headed on to Journey to the Imagination, which I had remembered as just right for a 2 year old. Turned out to be a little more startling than I remembered - in the dark, loud noises, but DGS was a trouper and as long as he was sitting on his dad's lap, he was fine. It's funny, though, how much your perspective changes. Noises I'd never registered as loud or scary when I've been on a ride with adults suddenly seem much more ominous when I was sitting next to a toddler.
But DGS did well enough that his dad, aunt and uncle decided to try him on "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" and the report is that he loved it! (Not wearing the glasses helped!) Since my husband and I were still focused on making sure our daughter, the mom, had a chance to have some fun in the afternoon, we opted to skip the movie and head back to Test Track for more fastpasses.
All of us wanted to try to get over to the World Showcase before the crowds began to build, so we left Future World with 10 (!) fastpasses for Test Track, and a yen to try some of the World's food for lunch. Walking past Canada, we stopped in the shop to look for a box of the crisp maple leaf cookies Le Cellier uses to decorate their Creme Brulee. Couldn't find those, but we're hoping the maple cream cookies are as good as the girls working in the shop told us they are. We're going to take them to my father-in-law, who's addicted to the regular grocery store variety, for an unbiased report.
The mom was able to meet us at lunch time. DGD was awake and feeling a bit better, and could be out and about for a little while. She and her mom desperately needed to escape the cabin fever that inevitably set in, even with such a nice cabin. The adults all really wanted to try the Moroccan Food, but my husband and I were in the mood for Japanese, so we decided to split up and meet back in the room after lunch. "Bopa" and I had a nice, quiet tempura meal in the Japanese lounge as soon as they opened, then went back to the room to rest.
Late that afternoon, with the babies feeling better but needing to rest, we took over baby-sitting duties while our adult "kids" took off for a much needed sprint through Epcot. DGS was able to join them for the fireworks, which he loved! All through the rest of the trip he would look up into the sky and say, "Ba-boom!.....Done." He definitely wanted "More!"
