coldest day at fw

What was the coldest day anyone spent at FW and the parks. How did it affect your trip and what did you do to cope?

Last christmas it was in the low fortys for a few days. Just turned on the heat in the mh to sleep. At night we burned fires outside so it wasn't too bad. We went to the movies and that was freezing cold. Just took blankets and plenty of beer to keep warm. LOL

IIRC we had frost warnings a couple of those nights, still a heck of a lot warmer than it was at home.

We have been there a few times in January when it actually got down below freezing at night. But it warms up really fast after sunrise....

We had the same experiences last January (not below freezing, but close). If going to a park early on a really cold day we try and avoid the MK and the boat ride. It can be brutal out on the water and you have to overdress and then figure out what to do with all the extra jackets/gloves/hats when it warms up. On the really chilly mornings we usually drive to another park than MK and then when it warms up go back to the car and drop off the extra heavy clothing and grab something more appropriate to continue.

The same goes if say it's warm and you leave to spend the night at one of the parks when it's supposed to get cold. You have to carry jackets, etc. since after sunset the temps can drop like a rock.

I can remember many years ago we were at WDW, in Dec. or Jan.,,there was a freak Northern cold that blew in literally over night,,,NO ONE was prepared for this type of cold in Florida,,,by the end of that first cold day, you COULD NOT buy a sweat shirt, jacket, coat, scarfs, gloves, even those big white Mickey gloves couldn't be bought !! The only thing close warm that was left to buy were those big goofy specialty hats that cost out the nose.

We had the same thing a few years ago maybe the same time it was dec or jan also we ran out of gas in the trailer over night and couldn't find anyone open we ended up sleeping in the truck in the front parking lot with the motor running so we had heat all night will never do that agian i knew 1 tank was low but forgot the second was empty always remember to have at least 1 full once you do it once you will NOT do it agian

In the late 80's we were there at Xmas time and it got below freezing during a couple nights with highs around 49 degrees. Disney had signs posted all over to please forgive the mess while workers rushed to replace all the damaged flowers, plants, etc. Epcot was especially hard hit.

Below freezing at night and 40's, cloudy and drizzly during the day. We layered and bundled up and forged on. We did however skip The Kali river rapids ride in AK. We even wore our rain ponchos over our jackets when not raining to keep warm. Also drank lots of hot chocolate.

I think it was November '99 it went from hot in the afternoon to 40s that evening. There wasn't a jacket or warm shirt to be found. People were buying beach towels to keep warm for the Fantasmic show.

after spending one bitterly cold winter trip down with the Mouse we learned to wear layers and take backpacks to store them in if we don't plan to return until late at night...that way we are well prepared for all temps... we still have a little one who uses a stroller and can carry all those on it...then if we need to leave it to go in or on a ride we take turns with the pack...works for us! we also take electric heaters and sleeping bags....for all weather...if the power goes out...we still stay warm..propane runs out...we are ok!!!

1988 the week between xmas and New Year it was 21-33 every night. We froze our *ss off.

I remember this past January, New Years/Christmas time as it getting down to 28 at night. It was cold! Our heat went out during the night so DH had to get out at 3 am and change the tank! This year I am bringing an electric blanket for those cold beds in the pup.

The coldest night I ever experienced at FtW was in January 1980. We were in site 117 with a very basic pop up. We had an electric heater that was "state of the art" for the time, but basically worthless. It got down to 17 degrees. We had a thin sheet of ice on the canvas on the side we slept on. Stupid us still rode the "little" boat from the Fort to the MK & back. I don't know why we didn't ride the bus - but we didn't. Young & stupid I suppose.
