DS is home today with a terrible head cold and he said the Dayquil he's been taking hasn't been doing a thing. I'd like to go get him something that will help him feel better.

He has sneezing, coughing, congestion and runny nose and is pretty miserable. Thankfully, this is the first time in about a year any of us have been sick.

What works for you on a head cold? I know that since many of the meds have been changed (thanks for that meth-heads :headache:), they don't work as well.

You can still get the ones with the pseudoephedrine from the pharmacist- that's what "unclogs" my head whether it's from allergies or a head cold!

You can get the good stuff if you sign your life away at the pharmacist.
Hope he feels better!

I know. I'm somehow the one that is made to feel like a criminal, just to get some freakin' cold medicine!! Ugh. Major pet peeve.

We use Advil Cold & Sinus - DH calls that stuff his miracle pill because he feels better usually after the first dose.

HTH :goodvibes

Yes, you have to ask the pharmacist for it, then show ID and sign for it.
Get some of those zicam lozenges too. They shorten the cold and lessen the symptoms.
Also, loads of water to hydrate and a saline squeeze rinse to keep everything clearer and loosened.

another vote for advil cold and sinus it is behind the counter but Oh so worth the hassle!! <3 that stuff!!! its the only thing I buy! 7.99 at rite aid lol

Another vote for the Advil Cold & Sinus (red box) or Advil Allergy & Sinus (green box). Those are the ones that work best for our family (Allergy & Sinus is the one we use most). It's behind the counter at the pharmacy...though I will say I have trouble find the Allergy & Sinus version. I live in a small town and even though we have a Walmart, CVS, & Rite Aid, I can only get the Allergy & Sinus version at the little mom & pop pharmacy in town -- the other 3 don't even stock it. I buy 2 boxes at a time since we go through it quite quickly during spring and fall allergy seasons.

I agree with the Advil cold and sinus and signing your life away to get from behind the counter. I have actually sent my dh this text before

Please stop at Walmart and get me Advil cold and sinus, the good stuff, with the psuedoephedrine, behind the pharmacy county. I dont want to make drugs I just want to breathe. :rotfl:

Agree with previous posters on the Advil but also Alka Seltzer Cold is great. I wouldn't have believed it but a friend had me try it and it really works.

Last time I ran in to buy it, I forgot my ID - you should have seen the looks I got! I kept thinking, "What about me looks like I'm going to start a fight over a box of cold medicine?" :lmao:

Will definitely be trying Advil Cold and Sinus (red box). Thanks for all the suggestions! :)

Hope your DS feels better soon!

Thanks, me too. He's still sleeping, so I'm hoping that will help a bit. I'll be leaving for the store shortly and then I can drug him up as soon as he wakes up. ;)

I use to take Advil Cold and Sinus then the dr told me that he couldn't get me anything prescription that was stronger than Robitussin DM Max. It tastes nasty but works great! You can get the Walmart brand of it for about $1.97. It works for colds and sinus issues.

Another vote for Advil Cold and Sinus that you sign for. Worth the added inconvenience!

Well at least you have that option where you live. Here we need a PRESCRIPTION from our doctor! It is a LAW.:furious:

Just got back from the store and I got both a red box and green box of Advil cold and sinus. :rotfl: It was under the allowable limit for one day, so I got both, since the green box symptoms are more what he's experiencing.

But now I have the red for back up. :thumbsup2
