Hi DIS friends,

Well in this cold October, my hands and feet are frozen, even inside my house.

For years now, I always suffer from cold hands and feet. I wear gloves and a hat around the house. I do jumping jacks to get the blood moving. I drink hot water and hot tea during the day.

Does anyone else suffer from this? Any other tips, advice, suggestions (besides move to central Florida :sunny:)

Freezing in Delaware already :faint:

I have that. I think my doctor called it rheumosis (sp). It's caused by pinched nerves in the hands and feet.

Oh, SeeDisney, I'm the same way. My secret weapon? DH. The man is always warm. I stick my hands under his shirt.;) Luckily, he's very understanding and doesn't seem to mind!

I also have dd sit on the end of the couch as I lie down and then she sits on my feet.

Weird, I know, but it works!

I have always had cold hands, ever since I was a child. My patients at work always comment how cold they are, and I always respond, "cold hands mean warm heart!!!"
:D

Im one of those always cold people(85-90 degrees is my ideal weather), but my hands and feet really get the worst of it. Sometimes I can barely move my hands they get so numb. Other than to wear mittens around the house I dont really know what to do for it.

I get really cold when my iron levels are low.

I have it too. I've been told it could be bad circulation? I don't know. I've been worried about my hands alot lately, they really ache when they get cold now. :(

I get that too - mostly my feet though. A lot of times it's because I have hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) on the bottoms of my feet and when it's damp it's cold.

PPFFTTBB!! More like sweaty hands and feet here...it's HOT! I hate it!!!!

yeah i've been that way my whole life. it's because of bad circulation for me.

Actually, it sounds like Reynaud's disease. It is caused by poor circulation (usually hereditary) in the hands and feet. The lack of blood supply initially starts off with just cold hands and feet, but can progress to severe pain in hands and feet with exposure to cold. In some people, having their hands unprotected in even 50 degree temps can cause their hands to look dead white and become very painful. Smoking and diabetes can cause a worsening of the disease. Medications used to treat the disease can come with side effects which are pretty severe, so they are reserved for people who cannot tolerate even the 50 degree temps.

I have Reynaud's (could you guess) and I have to wear gloves on my hands if I am outside in less than 50 degrees. And they have to be really good heavy gloves, not just those stretchy things.

My feet are like ice when I am cold but then in the summer they are hot.

At night in the summer, I have tried everything to cool my feet like soaking in cold water but within minutes they are back burning up again. I have to sleep with them outside the covers at night. When they get really hot at night, I will put on damp socks to cool them off.

Then when winter comes, I'm wearing socks to bed to try and warm up my feet. Even then they are still cold. Sometimes, I'll get out the heating pad for my feet in the winter.

My hands are fine in the summer or winter though.

I get cold hands too. I remember my friend had me hold her newborn. The baby grasped my finger and got this startled look on her face. It's on videotape and everyone laughs at it.

One of the reason's I moved south is because of this. My feet and hands get really cold easily and turn blue. I have to keep my air on 75 degrees here and even still I tend to use a comforter on my lap to keep my feet from being cold. I have been told by two doctors that it is probably Raynaud's Disease and to just make sure I keep my hands and feet warm if I am in cold weather.

When I was in HS, my family doctor (who had a bit of a warped sense of humor) told my mom to never let me go hiking in the winter or be in a plane that crashed on a mountain (like she would have control over this) because if I got caught in the cold for any length of time, I would mostly likely lose some toes to frostbite. As I said, he was a strange guy...but it certainly got the point across to me to wear heavy socks in the winter and I usually had a second pair in my backpack. And I always made sure my boots were waterproof!
