Has anyone seen the TV commercial for coin counting machines that don't charge a fee as long as you use the money to purchase a gift card from one of their select merchants? One of the merchants was Starbucks. I don't remember the others. I need the website of the machine company so I can find a location near me. I have done a web search but can't find anything.

Can anyone help me???

Not sure about the commercial you are referring to and I live in NY - I do know the supermarkets coin machines charge you more than 8 cents per dollar. My friend and my son recently used the coin machine at a bank here. There are a ton of banks here (Richmond, Hudson, Chase, Citibank, Northfileld, etc.) but they found Commerce Bank here does this and does not collect a fee. You also do not need to be a customer of the bank.

Check around, call all the different banks in your area and since if anyone offers this. I recently went for my loose change ($456.) and glad I did not have to give up any $$.

Perhaps someone else here can help you also.

They are Coin Star.

DH and I use them from time to time, after we've saved up enough change. I've never seen a coin counting machine in a bank in my area. It's true that if you get the gift certificate you don't have to pay the fee - we got one for Amazon the last time we turned in our change. It gave us a code we could just plug in when we placed our order.

If you have a lot of coins you can go to your bank with a blank deposit slip. They will take it from you and at some time when things are slow one of the staff will take your coins into the back, run them through the machine, and thern make out the deposit slip.

Just check with your branch manager beforehand as to any special procedures, or if an appointment is needed, or what.

Thanks for the info. It was Coinstar that I was looking for. Unfortunately, they don't have a machine in my area that offers the gift cards. Only the ecertificates. I was really wanting to dump in the pennies and get a Starbucks card. Got to feed my addiction! I don't mind counting the silver coins. I actually enjoy it and find it relaxing. It's the pennies that I hate. So much work for so little in return.

Thanks again to everyone!

I don't know about other banks but I know that my bank makes you roll your coins. I do know that Credit Unions will take your change, unrolled, even if you aren't a customer there.
