Coffee makers don't make it long in this house

I am on my 2nd Cuisinart Grind and Brew. The first one lasted for many years until it finally quit. I like it because it grinds the beans fresh every morning. And it has a timer so I can set it up the night before. The one I have now has a thermal carafe that keeps the coffee hot for hours without a hot burner. I think they cost around $100.:surfweb:

We've had a Black and Decker Spacesaver Optima for 14 years and it's still going strong with occasional run-throughs with vinegar (typing quietly so it won't hear me)

Wow, they still make Tang?

OP, how about getting a countertop Brita Pitcher and pouring the water in that every morning before filling the coffee maker from it?

I actually called Brita this morning and their pitchers and faucet filters don't remove lime....lots of other things, but not lime.

I've found a couple of Cuisinarts and an Oster that have self cleaning cycles. The Cuisinart has a light that comes on when it needs to be "decalcified." I'm sure my light would just stay on the whole time!

Besides buying bottled water, the only other thing I can think of is to fill it with hot tap water which does run through the water softener.

Thanks for all the advice and replies!

So....thoughts on Cuisinarts? :confused3

It's funny you should mention that.....I was just reseaching brands etc on Amazon and somebody's review mentioned one having a Brita filter. Next thought for me was that we fill the coffee maker with cold kitchen water which is the only water not hooked up to the water softener.

We only moved here 2 1/2 yrs ago and this is probably our 2nd or 3rd coffee maker in IN. Gotta love Indiana water (and my slow thinking as to what was wrong!)

I'm going to look into the cleaner, but in the meantime we still need a new coffee maker....

How's Braun for a brand?
My folks swear by the Braun brand for coffee makers and they make at least one pot a day in the summer and more in the winter.

Go to your public library and check consumer reports for product recommendations.

I have two, A Back and Decker 8 cup for over 18 years with the thermal carafe. Also a Farberware 12 cup Brew pot for weekends,

When I think of it I run the vinagar through but we have Crystal clear spring water in the Pocono area here. I use cream of tarter and run a cycle to clean the elec brew pot.

Sorry I should have mentioned we've tried that route too. :headache: I was filling it with bottled water for a while but it's too expensive to do every day.
