I normally only come on here to just browse the articles and grab some disney recipes to make at home.

But now, I'd like to ask for everyone's help. I'm currently undertaking a project to create a coffee table book that I think all Disney Fans will thoroughly enjoy.

"Coffee in the Kingdom" will be a photo essay of beautiful high quality photos of the four parks. Please check out my Kickstarter project by going to Kickstarter and searching "Coffee in the Kingdom" or clicking this link:

here are some of the photos that I've already taken and expect to use in the book:

I'm not an attorney but,
Disney may have a major problem with this if you plan on selling these books.

Luckily... ;) I am an attorney.

In simple terms, copyright for photographers means owning property. With ownership, you get certain exclusive rights to that property. For photographic copyrights, the ownership rights include:

(1) to reproduce the photograph;

(2) to prepare derivative works based upon the photograph;

(3) to distribute copies of the photograph to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending;

(4) to display the photograph publicly;

Found in the U.S. Copyright Act at 17 U.S.C. 106 (http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#106)

This means that I will need to take every single picture to be used in the book. If I were to use any of Disney's stock images, then you're right...I'll need to get written permission from The Walt Disney Company to license the photograph.

I recently sold a photo to a puzzle company of a beach scene. There was another photo I took of the Beach Club resort lighthouse that they were interested in. When I told them it was from the BC they passed on the second photo because it was taken on Disney property and Disney would not allow it to be used.

You may be correct, but that is my experience and I've heard from other sources that Disney is very aggressive in stopping the sale of photos/images of their property.

I came into this thread expecting photos of the Starbucks on Main Street. Silly me. :lmao:

I am confused? You are going to take all of the photos, but you want others to contribute to the cost of producing the book?

Not to be a downer, but there are so many excellent photographers shooting Disney related stuff, I am not sure how big the market is for your proposed book. And, as others have said, getting around Disney issues may be a bigger impediment than you believe.

I have made a "coffee table" book of my family's vacations to WDW - not that anyone other than my family would be interested in it. There are so many on-line book-making companies out there that I would think most would make their own.
