Coffee/Hot Water Question

My DH would really like to take a french press coffee maker on board with him as he hears that the coffee on board is not that great and he really enjoys a good cup of coffee in morning. The coffee maker is really quite small - the size of a tall travel mug, so it's not that awkward. My question is, where would he get the boiling water from? Does the drink station on deck 9 have a separate spout for hot water - wondering if the hot tea & hot chocolate they serve is already premixed or there would be hot water? Thanks, Jo

I believe there is hot water as the hot chocolate packets are laying out.

Yes, there is hot water available at the drink station. The cocoa and tea are not premixed. I didn't sample the coffee myself, but I also heard it was not that good.

There is hot water at the drink station or you can order room service for a continental breakfast, juice and tea and get your hot water that way. They deliver the hot water in a carafe and tea bags on the side, you can have pastries/toast or cereal while you are getting dressed in the morning. That way he won't have to get dressed and go to deck 9 for the water.

Okay, now you guys are freaking me out!
I am a major coffee drinker, and not always just in the morning. Is the coffee just not that flavorful, which I could live with if I needed to, or is it just bad? And by bad I mean to weak, to strong or, Starbucks forbid, burnt.

Coffee, like so much in this world, is a matter of personal preference and a hot topic on the Dis Boards.


I also am an avid coffee drinker and have never had a problem with the coffee served in the dining rooms or the bars. I have found it to be quite good and always brewed to a good strength.

Part of the discussion about the coffee onboard seems to stem from some individuals maintaining that all coffee onboard is made from NesCafe liquid concentrate. From what I understand from the CMs, the NesCafe offered at the beverage station on Deck 9 is the only NesCafe served onboard. The coffee in the dining rooms *is* brewed from ground beans, as is the coffee from room service.

As for other types of coffee drinks, mochas, cappuccinos, etc., they offer then at the new Cove Cafe and, if unchanged since dry dock, also at the Promenade Lounge. You can also order them in any of the dining rooms

I thought that the coffee in the dining rooms was pretty good. Your typical after-dinner coffee. The coffee at the drink station was okay. Not the best cup, but not horrible.

I am interested is trying some of the coffee and espresso drinks at Cove Cafe on the magic this cruise. I am assuming they will be fresher and made to order.

We found the coffee on board was delicious. However, everyone has differing tastes. You will be unable to take electrical items to cabins (safety rules) - including travel irons.
Just a note: I spent our 2 week back to back cruise wishing I could have a cappuccino coffee every day, only to be told on disembarking that you can have CAPPU anytime you like in restaurants if you ask! Gee, will remember that NEXT time! Nat

I had room service deliver my coffee every morning before going to breakfast and it was fresh brewed. I know because I am an avid coffee drinker. It was always fresh and hot. Then we would go down to breakfast. I never tried the coffee in the dining rooms.

I am no expert on coffee but I thought the beverage station coffee was very good.

I learned to drink my coffee black, light, or regular. I start off with it black. If it's mediocre, I add cream. If it's still bad, I add more cream and some sugar. My DP laughs at me because she can tell right away what I think of the coffee without saying a word...
