I am one of those who NEEDS a couple of good strong hot cups of coffee before I'm alive in the morning. I was wondering if room service coffee is in a pitcher that stays hot for the second cup? Is it any good? I'm not bringing anything like a coffee pot, and would rather have at least one good cup before going out to get some more.

How much do you normally tip for breakfast?

We're booked March 15, 2008 for a 7 night eastern! Our first cruise ever - yeah!

Honesly the coffee isn't as strong as DH and I like it, so we would order two esspreso's and mix them into the coffee. I know it sounds silly but we love our coffee. We need that strong coffee to function first thing. As far as it staying hot, it was really hit or miss. Sometimes we ordered it the night before and the coffee was still hot the next morning. Other times it was cold. We ended up just using the room service tickets and pre ordering our coffee the night before.

The coffee onboard is pretty much industrial waste. To get a good cup, you are going to have to leave the room and go to the Cove Cafe and pay for it. It is brewed per cup for you while you wait.

When we cruise with Disney, one of our favorite things is to wake up and have breakfast together in our room. My problem is the coffee thing. I love my coffee, but I like flavored coffee and flavored creamer. I know I'm picky, but Disney's coffee is strong to me. I use all the creamer they give me just on one cup! We order at night for morning delivery with breaksfast and they send a carafe of hot, strong (to me) coffee. It helps to get me going! :woohoo:

The coffee is *ok*, seems to have been stronger on the MED cruise - a cast member told me that they sourced different coffee in the Med, so that may have been why it was better.

We tip $3 for room service. Always. The cast members in the 'bell box' share the tips, and many cruisers apparently do not tip.

Thanks for the replies - $3 sounds fair for a tip. I'll plan on bringing some 1's onboard.

So if the coffee is in a carafe that's nice. I'll slug it down, and then plan on probably going to the coffee bar and pay for a good cup after dressing.

Seriously? Man, I don't get people sometimes.

Thanks for the info on the coffee- I'm thinking a coffee wake-up call is going to be in our cruise future. :tigger:

The room service tips are pooled?? I think it is terrible that some don't tip--I wonder what their reasoning is.

Most of the coffee is strong for me, but I didn't think the romm service coffee was bad. I always order a whole milk to use for my coffee, because there is never enought creamer for me.

You don't need singles either, you can sign the slip and add your tip to the slip.

Another option on tipping is when you're making those errands before your vacation, stop by the bank to pick up some $2 bills for room service tipping. Saves you on bulk!

Another option might be to carry a French Press with you. I know our local Starbucks has a single press designed for travel. I also found a number of them when I searched eBay.

Keep in mind I don't know the first thing about actually brewing with a French press, but all the stories about bad coffee on DCL are making me consider learning! LOL

Following the logic here. . . you'd bring a FP and your own pre-ground coffee (of course, TSA will think you are smuggling drugs, but that thought aside. . . ), then order a wake-up call of boiling water each morning.

Just another idea!

DH is much more into coffee than I am, so he was in heaven when he discovered French press coffee at Boma on a WDW trip. That Christmas I gave him a couple of Mickey coffee mugs I got at WDW and a Mickey coffee press I found on ebay. :thumbsup2

He was very happy with the gift, plus everything had Mickeys on it! Makes the coffee taste even better!
