We were thinking of staying here after a cruise for a night or 2. I wanted know how the beach is here. Are there chairs to rent, rough waves or calm generally? Thanks
We stayed there before a trip to WDW in December 2012 (and got engaged at Cocoa Beach too!). The waves were not high at all when we were there, but it's a surf destination so there must be waves at some point. Our hotel had chairs to rent. We stayed at the Cocoa Beach Doubletree and liked it a lot. I have pics in my trip report in my signature if that helps.
These are the pics I have from my TR of our time at Cocoa Beach:

I just returned from 10 days at the Doubletree Cocoa Beach. It's my favorite hotel over there. I like that pretty much all the rooms have at least a partial ocean view and balcony (there are a few really cheap rooms on the 2nd floor that overlook the restaurant roof that don't have a balcony, but they are labeled as such when you are making the booking). There is a vendor that rents chairs and umbrellas on the beach or you can hang out at the pool where there are plenty of chairs. I usually book an upper floor room facing north because I like watching the cruise ships leaving port in the distance, but the south facing rooms actually have the better ocean views. There is transportation to the port (for a fee) and if you have a car, they have a "park and cruise" rate that allows you to leave your car at the hotel while you cruise. The rooms have a microwave and a fridge, and there is a Publix grocery store right across the street to purchase any food or snacks you might like.
I usually stay there a couple times a year at least.
There was plenty of surf action when I was there last week. Very windy - to the point the surfers were having trouble carrying their boards in the wind. That's why it's nice to have the hotel pool as well - in case the surf is too high for comfortable swimming.
That LQ is probably the best choice if you don't have a car. There's a little shopping strip mall across A1A with a Publix grocery and several restaurants a walkable distance away.
Everything is really pretty walkable. I think it is probably only about a mile or 2 at most between the Pier and Ron Jons. We have parked in the parking garage at the surf shop next to Ron Jons and walked to the pier a few times to avoid parking at the pier and it was a pleasant walk.
