cockaroach OKW style

Finding a lizard in the room wasn't so bad. And the 5 inch frog with spiderman abilities was entertainment for some time. But am I wrong to think that roaches in the rooms are unacceptable? Just back from stay in OKW/VB/VWl. Always have had good stays in all but, OKW was quite the disapointment this year. Besides the rooms showing their age, cleaning of the rooms were bad. Candy and wrappers behind/under the couches, carpets so dirty that our socks turn black from walking on them, mildew in the shower and lastly roaches. Now I know families check in and out of the rooms all the time some with more respect for the resort than others and getting the 1 bedroom with its kitchen adds the food factor but finding a roach peeking out from the access panel on the whirlpool and another crawling up the garbage can really put us at a loss.

I hope you reported it right away! If you did, they would have been in there correcting those problems right away, and your stay would have been saved. If you didn't report it, shame on you! They will only know about the roaches if someone tells them.

We had a roach in our sink at OKW too. Lizards are cool, frogs are cool, roaches are GROSS! We didnt report it as they are so common in Florida. We did have a lot of mildew on the patio though, but the rooms were clean enough.

LOL! Well hopefully by the time we get there late December SOMEONE would have reported it and the critters would be taken care of.

A 5 inch frog with spiderman abilities! Oh man I would lose it. Lizards and roaches I can handle, I wouldn't be thrilled but hey.. Some people have spider and snake phobias I have a "hippy-hoppy" phobia. I expect them to be outside (always bring my little flashlight to light the path!) but INSIDE!!!???? Shudders!

I agree. Not reporting "issues" at any DVC is one of my pet peeves around here !

Building #18 had its share of problems, but no roaches in our villa thank goodness! There were many lizards, didn't notice any over happy frogs, a few geckos, none got into the room though! The shower and room was showing its age! Huge mold problem in the bathroom--my clorox wipes took care of it, but if I had not had them I would have called to have the shower re-cleaned. Having been in refurbished rooms and not refurbished rooms at OKW we just figured this one was do for a redo!

Oh boy...what a timely thread. I'm at OKW right now (first stay), holed up with a sick child while DH is basking in the extremely hot sun at Typhoon Lagoon with the other kids.

Yesterday, DD saw a salamander on her window sill, but thought it was dead. Until it went missing. I hate any kind of crawly things. {{{shudder}}} When DH got home with the other kids, DS refused to sleep in there, so he slept on the couch. When other DD went to go to bed, she came running out shrieking for DH (as only a teenage girl can do) and jumping up and down...salamander back on the window sill! DH gets rid of that one outside, then shortly after, DD comes running out again...another one! DH took that one outside too. And we're all feeling just a little bit crawly today.

Are they really salamanders? Salamanders are big black spotted ugly things, but what we usually see at Disney are little gecko like critters. They are harmless, and I have never seen them inside, but we did once have a little tree frog hop into our entry and then into the closet! We left him alone and never saw him again.

I also always wonder about the difference between roaches and palmetto bugs. For people that have never seen a palmetto bug, they would probably assume its a roach (although on steriods) but they are don't come in from filth or from food spoils - they come in when it rains, they come in when it doesn't rain...they come in when its hot...they come in when they feel like it apparently. I agree that calling is the best thing you can do so they will spray the rooms, but palmetto bugs in the summer in Florida and Hilton Head are going to happen no matter what.

salamanders come in all sizes.but must stay moist and out of the sun, they're also a lot slower then the gecko or is it Gieco,, You won't find the salamanders on the sidewalk or sides of the building they stay in the wet grassy areas like the water parks.What you probably see running around the building is either a house gecko or an anole, If you leave them alone they may eat the roaches.. any how lots of rain in Florida this year so buggies are more likely to want to come inside.. I agree you should report anything you are unhappy with. They won't fix it if they don't know about it

Thanks, Fishermouse! I was trying to remember "anole" and I couldn't for the life of me think of that name! I'm pretty sure that's what it would be, because salamanders wouldn't be inside! The geckos we see in Hawaii are a bit smaller and "see through" compared to those little lizards we see around WDW ( I guess I should call them enoles).

Probably so! They creap me out for sure. I just wanted people to know that it isn't always about being dirty or leaving food behind. Palmetto bugs will come in no matter what in FLA. BLEECK!!!
