COBRA Health Insurance Questions

I know COBRA rates can vary widely depending on the type of insurance you had and how many people are covered on COBRA.

I am being laid-off from my on March 31. I will get 3 months of health care coverage through my company. My DH company does not offer health insurance. We don't have any kids, so it will just be coverage for myself and DH.

I was wondering if anyone could share with me what they pay for COBRA and how many people are covered. I know right now most people right now are getting the 35% reduced rate. I hoping they extend the reduced COBRA until the end of 2010.

Cobra costs should be what your company pays for your health insurance with an up to 2% additional fee for administration. if you call your HR department they should be able to give you the exact cost. Good luck!

We have 6 people and it's $1500/month without the Gov't subsidy, for medical/dental/vision. With the subsidy (ends in May for us) it's $550/month.

We are paying somewhere in the $400 right now for a family medical/dental. We are getting this price until the end of May. We can stay on cobra until the end of July if needed but it will cost right around $1500. I thought cobra had to be offered a minimum of 9 months up to 18 months. Oh dh's company did provide him health insurance for x amount of time after his lay off as part of severance but it was still considered cobra. Normally cobra isn't the best deal for health insurance but it is a good price with the federal subsidy.
