Just for those who may be in the same situation as we are in the future, options for booking a reservation when you don't have points that I've just utilized last night with the help of DVC Member Services.
Situation: we had an upcoming trip in October where we booked a SSR studio room for 3 of us. Other people wanted to join, and stay in the same place as us. We did not have the points available to book a room for them, or to even expand from a studio to a 2BR, and I'd been looking for a while for transfer options with no success. We are already borrowing for this transaction since I have a Dec UY and so I don't get my 2023 points until 1-Dec so these are 2022 points being used for Oct 2023 reservation.
So initially booked a CASH SSR Studio reservation for 5 nights...not cheap of course...for the other party.
Last night I realized I could get all 5 nights in a 2BR at OKW but not all were available via CASH but all were available via points and I only had enough points for 2 nights in OKW 2BR.
Called DVC MS to see options. I could get APH rate (since we are APs) for 3 of those nights...but had her price out DVC Cash rate. It was better for 2 of the nights, but the APH rate was better for one of the nights. Since we are APs staying in the 2BR, we decided to do the following:
Night 1: APH Cash Rate 2BR Villa OKW
Night 2 & 3: DVC Points 2BR Villa OKW
Night 4 & 5: DVC Cash Rate 2BR Villa OKW
The DVC Member Services agent moved my 5 night studio to the 2 nights at OKW for me. She also booked the DVC Cash Rate room for me. In the DVC reservation there is a notation that we have 2 additional nights on CASH and the reservation number. In the CASH reservation the DVC room reservation prior to that stay is linked. For the first night, I still need to have DVC and Disney Reservations add the linked reservations. The DVC rep said this should help when we checkin for them to know we don't want to move, since it's the same level and room for all 5 nights.
This made my 20yo daughter (turning 21 that weekend) very happy that we all get to stay together to celebrate her birthday.
It may have taken some work, but in the end this was actually CHEAPER for the one party that was initially paying cash rate for 5 nights at SSR Studio room. Just something for those people thinking about that can't quite get what you want with current points. (BTW even OTU points would not have been enough for me to even get one more additional night on points).
