Coach's Corner

Unfortunately I got to these threads late coach but I loved your narrative. It has given me even more anticipation for this race. I made my DW read it and hopefully it has helped her with the uneasiness that has been gradually building. No words I have been able to say has eased her mind even though I know her training has went well. No truer words have been spoken about the sleep deprivation that occurs the night before. I remember it well. Good luck on your races and enjoy. I know I will.

What a great post...makes me misty eyed! ;) And even more, it makes me think about how I really want TO WANT to do a full...would love for Disney to be my first 26.2, but I just cannot wrap my head around the training. I've watched my DBF train for a full for 3 years in a row now, and he's incredibly dedicated and in great shape, and it's pretty rough even on him. I'm waiting for the day I cave in and commit to it, but I just can't get there! I'll have to keep this motivating post handy the next time registration rolls around...it might just put me over the edge :thumbsup2

Good Luck everyone! I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines of the Houston Marathon the same day!

This made me teary eyed too. Not for what's to come but for what I've already done. I completed my first half last month and loved it! In late 2011 I decided I wanted to do it after reading a JG training plan. My head knew I couldn't do it but my heart wanted to so, so badly. With each passing week I silenced the voices in my head until my head said I could do it too. I will do 2 halfs this year. I still don't know if I have a full in me. But even that is a step up from where I started because then I would have said for sure there is no full in me. Perhaps those voices will take longer to silence.

Another thank you for all the help.

I now also know what I'll be thinking as I approach the climb out of WWoS. "Coach said it was only 0.12 miles"

You are an amazing motivational speaker!

You've made me think about a full. Do you recommend any training programmes?

Coach, I'm printing this. I will be the Tigger in G on Sunday with this tucked in my arm band.

Coach, I had retired from running 4 years ago due to foot and knee problems. I came out of retirement in 10/12 and ran the Jungle Jingle 5k in 11/12. I will be running the 5k next weekend and the Princess 1/2. You have helped me so much and gave me inspiration to run again, at the age of 50! We may never meet, but I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Cindy

Yes, Coach--thank you so much for all of your advise..with training and with my injury!!

Coach, I can't tell you how much your advice and encouragement has helped me. My friends and family support me, but marathons are completely foreign to them. And to me as well, since this is my first time. I don't know if anyone else is like this, but for me all those miles at 4 in the morning have given me a lot of alone time to think. That's not necessarily a good thing. I've analyzed, over-analyzed, and run endless scenarios in my head during those hours of solitude. Often all it's done is cause me concern. Your advice has, quite frankly, sometimes been the only thing keeping me from driving myself crazy.

I want you to remember that next weekend, there will be a whole lot of people who will cross a finish line havnig benefitted in some way from all the time and effort you have put in. You'll get your medals, but you'll also have a piece of all of ours too. Thank you.

Coach,
This will be my 8th year doing Disney's marathon weekend ( a mix of halfs, fulls and Goofy's) and I still learn much from your posts. You've been a great asset to the boards, and hope you have many more years of contributing.

Good luck to you, and all of the WISHers next weekend. After all the weeks and months building up, it always seems to be over so quickly.

I'll add an additional quote for everyone to keep in their back pocket for after the weekend:

"We came. We saw. We kicked it's as*!"
- Peter Venkman, Ghostbusters

The * is an s, to get past the auto-edit.
