Actually, you can switch during the race if you want. Even if you cross the start line for the full, if you make the turn for the half, they'll record you as a half finisher. Just figured I'd pass that along in case you want to think about it for a few more weeks.
I still can't believe the organizers screwed up so badly in reserving the convention center. It's not like they didn't know when their dates would be for the next however many years. I'm sure the Mary Kay folks who will be there instead will be happy to have the space. And you're 100% right about the hard concrete. That's why I think the best runs in Houston are the trail runs in Huntsville (Rocky, Texas Trails, etc.) and Seabrook Lucky Trail. All are run on nice, soft trails.
I figured I could u-turn at mile 9 and finish regardless. I am sure that i am out the finisher shirt if I do not follow the rules exactly.
I am really keen on the race director who puts on the Seabrook event. I ran the toughest 10 k and the LaPorte half this fall. Both events were top tier.
Gotta get 15-16 in the AM. This has not been the best year in my recent training history. If Disney is warmer than the norm I will be toast and Houston could be just a thought.
