Coach Purses at Target!

Well it looks like they have degraded their product. Geesh how awful.

I think that I'll go to nasty old Target and check them out this weekend.

 Not once did I say I don't like Target. :rolleyes2 Rather, I couldn't imagine going to Target and picking up a coach purse.

I can assure you that Target would not be selling counterfeit designer purses. They can't be that stupid. I would like to know if they are priced the same as a dept store though? Or are they marked down like at TJ Maxx? So that begs the question... do you think TJ Maxx sells counterfeit too? I don't think so. They come with registration, etc just clearance/out of season selections.

I hope they aren't, but I managed one of the world's largest Intellectual Property law firms for many years and can assure you that BIG retailers have sold counterfeit items at full and discount prices. I can't comment on who they are and whether they're stupid or just flat out slimy, but it did and does happen.

Target isn't nasty, but these manufacturers have spent years building their product name and reputation. They may gain some clientele, but they'll lose many of their faithful consumers. The other retail establishments that carry Coach/Dooney also will not want to be put in the same class with a store that sells potting soil and tampax. This absolutely devalues the product name.

I can understand the concept that these bags are too high class for Target, I truly can. I would expect that these are likely seconds or discontinued items or something along those lines. Target has been steadily working towards upgrading their stock and I can definitely see them carrying some type of discounted versions of these bags. I do not for a second believe that Target would sell counterfeit products.

Besides, where do rich people buy their potting soil and Tampax anyway? ;)

Is it possible that these Coach and D&B bags are a lesser-grade product that they developed especially for Target? Sort of the way that Gap (for example) makes merchandise specifically to sell in their outlet stores?

Aren't most Coach bags/purses Made in China :confused3

Then, it is the same as many other products at Target. You know, the insanely marked up items made by people who work for very little ;)

That's what I'm thinking...like how that big name designer has a "Target line" that he just sells at Target...and keeps the good stuff at the boutiques.

I actually think it would be a good move for Coach and D&B to be in target with a lesser line......The people who buy the real stuff aren't going to buy at Target..(they will still look at the Target version and be like, "Oh, that's a Target one) but the people like me who buy knock-offs on the street in Manhattan from the nice fellows with the little "temporary stands" are going to love them. Gets their brand in everyones hands. That's how rich people get rich, they don't spend money unwisely. I know lots of rich people who swear by the kids clothes and the cotton clothes. And everyone LOVES Target. Seriously, have you ever heard anyone say they didn't? Doesn't it go something like this?

God
Family
Country
Target

:)

There's just something that sounds wrong about grabbing milk, tampons and a Coach purse in the same trip. ;)
:rotfl2: well, then you'll just have to stop buying milk and tampons there!

Really? How are they getting away with it? :confused3
they have the right to sell both brands, it's a new line they are carrying.

Target has been working on this deal for a while. Remember that target has a much better reputation then wal-mart or k-mart, that's why they have the rights to isaac mizrahi.. did you all know he is a huge designer?
Target is also bringing in a higher scale brand of jewelry and clothing.
i'm sure other coach and D&B stores will not be happy but too bad on them! the prices started at about $80 for a wristlette and went up to $329 for a really nice one. They were out of D&B by the time i got there so i didn't see those.

DH is a Target exec. and has failed to tell me this for obvious reasons--I would have been at the store already with purse in hand! In terms of whether they can or can't sell Coach, well I have no idea and I doubt he does either. He has told me that they are now carrying a Tommy Hilfiger line of clothing--said it's less expensive, same quality, but the Tommy logo/signature label is only on the inside so nobody would actually know you are wearing Tommy...
Not sure if any of this helps, but I will definitely ask DH when he gets home today about the purses. He already left for the day (maybe to help stock my new designer purse!). By the way, if these are legit Coach bags, I am so getting one for Christmas with our Target discount! Although for the cost of a Coach bag, I can have a 3 night trip to WDW...

I LOVE his accessories btw (I wish they would make plus sized lady clothes versions of his designs :furious: ) I have the prettiest pair of hot pink leather gloves from his collection. lol

what's next...louis vuitton?

actually, you stop @ nearly any sidewalk vendor & get a great knock off of the original(s) for less than $50.

one of the things I luv about this county, choice.

I guess I really didn't need an excuse to go to Target. I think I'll be heading there today just to check it out. :teeth: Christmas is coming you know. :santa:

A few days ago the Detroit Free Press had an article about the change in merchandise for some Target stores. The article did not mention either Coach or D&B but named two different designer jeans that I had never heard of. One that sold around $260 and one that sold around $175. The article indicated that this was being done in certain test markets and that the goal was for the shopper to be surprised each time they went to their local Target.

I would be surprised if these purses are subject to Target's usual clearance markdown schedule.

A question for those of you excited by this. Given that the purses may sell at exactly the same price, what makes it attractive to you to buy it at Target rather than the Caoch store or your local department store?

Absolutely nothing, given the bolding. Except maybe proximity. The nearest Coach store to me is an hour drive; the nearest Target about 5 minutes.

What Mal said! Same thing here!
