I just had to get this off my chest so I don't blow a gasket here at the office.

I sit by this woman who is ALWAYS sighing, oh everything hurts, sigh, sigh some more, woe is me, sigh some more, etc. She is driving me BONKERS!!! For the love of Pete....pipe down!!! :( Its at the point where I think she is acting "sick" all the time to get sympathy from us, as crazy as that sounds..... Which she does not.

Thanks, I feel better now. :)

I know people like that. Everything is a burden and they never have a good day. I call them martyrs and they get old very quickly.

ahhh********sighhhhhh*******

I do feel for you though.

Thanks all :) Believe me, slapping her (briefly) occurred to me! :)

The thing that just kills me is that we've got a gal in out office who is on leave, getting chemo for cancer, & when she comes in to work a bit here and there, this sweet woman NEVER complains, even though the poor thing has a right to.

Grrr....

My cube neighbor is like this. There is always something wrong with her, or she always has so much to do, so much that she has to work from home and blah, blah, blah. I get to hear about it ALL day long. The past 2 days have been nice because she called out sick.

I dread her coming back because some of the people on my team got asked to go to field conferences in Las Vegas and Orlando in Oct and Nov and she was not asked. She is going to flip a lid, but she wasn't asked because of her health issues and how she has so much work to do that she can't be out of the office for a week for each conference. I will have to listen to her complain about it and inform every person she talks to on the phone (which is a lot of people each day) that she isn't going and why.

My grandmother used to sigh like that all the time.

Then we realized it was a ploy. She'd sigh, and someone would say "what's wrong?" and then she'd start her list of complaints and expect sympathy.

Once we figured that out, we stopped playing that game. Eventually the sighing decreased. But just a tiny bit. But we didn't get as annoyed because we KNEW what it was all about.

Maybe your coworker is doing the same thing?

I would make her a little gift basket of every known medicine she might need to cure what ails her. All generic brands, of course and the smallest doses:

Antacids
ibubrofin
cold/flu meds
allergy meds
a box of tissues
cough drop
ben-gay rub

And with it I would put a note, saying hope this will help her to get over all her little aches and pains and that we can quickly go back to a sigh free office area.

But that is just me. I'm just snarky enough. We have a fake icky-sicky one in our office too. It's amazing how quickly her stuffed up head sounding voice goes away, once the rest of the girls start talking like that. And the forced dry cough and sniffles. When she starts in, we call her out on it. And with her, you can tell when she really sick and when the fake act is on. The boss has even called her out on it.

You must work with my MIL. I call her "Atlas" because she must carry the weight of the world on her shoulders...the constant **sighing** like everything is a burden.

I think you're 100% right on. I bet that's her angle - please ask me about my woes. I'm not taking the bait. I don't care. :)

Maybe she has Fibromalgia and hasn't been diagnosed?:confused3, You should tell her that with all the pain she is in she needs to be seen ASAP, I'm sure that'll keep her busy for a while:lmao:

OMG!! Do you work with me??? We have someone like that also. We are a small office (4 people when everyone is in). The copy machine is in the office I share with another woman. When the "sigher" comes in, we just look at each other and roll our eyes!!

We try not to make eye contact, because once she gets going, she will complain forever!! LOL!!

One of my coworkers sighs loudly several times a day. I finally said very loudly, "Hey, are you OK over there?"

Another coworker is nicknamed "Eeyore" because it's ALWAYS something.

Sometimes I feel like I work in an old folks home (apologies to my 80+ year old mother, who never complains).

People like this wear their emotions on their sleeves. It is also a bid for attention. I know someone that if you don't immediately (like split second) respond to a question, look where she is pointing, etc she does this huge dramatic sigh. It's usually when I'm driving. I can't talk 90 to nothing while driving, and I'd rather watch the guy in front of me that doesn't know where he is going, than to look at what she's pointing at. B/c we might end up staring upclose at the rearend of another car! But, she won't let me mentally tune her out b/c she is constantly trying to engage me in conversation.

Love her to death, but it is soooo mentally draining at times.

Going to a small party this weekend. One of the women going is just like this. There are always multiple health issues going on. I hated asking the 'How are you?' question and tried other comments over the years like 'Gee, you look great!' or 'It's wonderful to see you!', but no matter the comment, I still get the same type of response from her and she goes on and on about all the details.
