Co-Ed Sleep Away Camp?

Do me a favor and ask your cousin then where they showered. Reread my post too. What I said was they were communal showers with a sign outside that could be flipped to read boys or girls. Most of the time it was ignored and boys showered with girls. It wasn't designed to be that way or done with the camps blessing. It was just done.
What years did your cousin attend anyway?

Maybe if you had stated a valid reason backing up your comment in the first place there wouldn't have been a need for me to roll my eyes at you.

Well, I was there for 1 summer & best I can remember it must have been 1987 or 1988. I would have been 8 or 9 at the time & believe me, neither my friends or I could have been poured into a shower naked with girls. Can't imagine girls willingly getting naked with boys either at that age. Now at 14 or so----absolutely! But then it's doubtful the girls would have agreed. I wasn't there with the OP & can only accept what she says to be true in her circumstance.

Okay, so maybe you can clear this up for the OP. Where DID you guys all shower?

Not sure what years exactly, but it would have been the later part of the 80's to very early 90's. I just remember them going there in the summers and they were a few years younger than me.

True, showers were used by both boys & girls---just NOT at the same time! This isn't anything unusual at summer camps.

Okay, just to clear this up, I tracked down the former camp director Greg Finger and asked HIM if my memory was failing or not.
Here is the answer along wtih what I wrote.

"Dear TIV’er
You are correct about the shower house. It was one room with 8 shower heads — until about 10+ years ago when campers and parents requested that individual stalls be made — which we did with shower curtains. You are also correct about the sign — except that there was also one that said: “goats”.
No comment from this old gray head about co-ed showering!
Father Finger

I'm extremely sad to hear of the closing of Thoreau. I was a camper there in the early 1980s and have fond memories.
I do have one question that I'm hoping you can answer.
I was a camper there in 81 and 82. The showers were communal were they not? I have memories of a large room with 6 or so showerheads and no dividers and a sign outside that fliped from boys to girls. I also recall on more than one occasion showering with guys.
Am I off my rocker?
Thanks so much,
DWhittles"
