CMT- Sleaze Central - aka What happened to Country?

Turned on CMT before the games cam on Sunday. Since when did CMT, and maybe country music as a whole, become so sleazy?

Not that I'm complaining. I'll probably watch more often now. Maybe the whole thing is a crossover marketing ploy. Based on what I saw, it's going to work.

Trace Adkins' new video, which is basically about great butts, is worse (or better) than anything MTV ever aired. While nothing else was quite on that level, plenty of others came close.

I don't watch CMT or really listen to country music anymore, but I just go the image of C&W "Baby Got Back" and it made me laugh.

Totally agree!!!! What happened to all the good old videos???? I used to feel more comfortable with my kids watching CMT than MTV or BET, but with videos like Honky Tonk Badonkadonk, it makes me wonder what kind of message Trace is trying to send?????

i made the kid who i babysit for shut it off because of what they were doing. Plus his parents are very big on the "no sexy/sex on tv" thing. I told his parents about the stuff that was on CMT and they were freaked out that country music would get that way. I think that its sad that a 7 year old whos watched CMT for a while should just be cut off because people are greedy.

Interesting. It's likely got worse, but it was far from wholesome in the past. Sex, drugs, and country twang.

So Faith Hill started writhing around in the desert, and male groups like Brooks and Dunn stopped making videos with cowboys and racecar drivers and started making videos with scantily clad girls.

But the really skanky stuff came along when Jessica Simpson did her "These Boots are Made for Walkin" video.

A young girl thrusting her pelvis at Willie Nelson is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

But it's worked - country music became more mainstream as more people tuned into it. I don't see the need for country music to remain with a sterotypical look - jeans and obnoxious patterned shirts, bouncy skirts, big hair and rhinestones on everything. I think it's great that you can be as sexy and fashionable as the rest of them, and still be country too! Country is evolving - look at Cowboy Troy and Big and Rich for crying out loud! They rock!

As far as Jessica Simpson - she's FAR from country!

That's too bad. I don't really care for country, but used to watch CMT sometimes because it was clean enough for the kids. We don't do MTV. etc.
