I am standing outside 50s PTC after being told at 5:30 that I cannot check in for my 5:55 reservation until 5:55. The CM working the desk was very rude and said "there is no way I can let you check in before your reservation time, because we are so busy", after I mentioned that we are told to check in fifteen minutes prior to our ADR time.

I'm normally a pretty mellow guy, but I'm fuming about this CM's rudeness. Also, if this is due to overbooking, what's up with that? I've never heard a CM say anything like this before, though we've had to wait past out ADR times before- I understand that's how the system "works".

Thanks for reading my rant :)

Tried again at 5:45 lol. Rejected again, but at least this CM wasn't rude. She said "if I check you in now, you'll wait longer than if you check in at your ADR time."

Are they trying to fudge a wait-time metric or something?

Sorry you had to deal with a rude CM. I hope you've either gotten in to your ressie now or that you will soon, and that you have a nice meal. :)

Thanks! I did manage to check in just now, they said about thirty minutes. So guess I'll have to wait a bit longer for my pb&j shake :)

Never heard of such rubbish... but....I have been treated badly at a restaurant and didn't feel like taking it up with the manager and being emabarrassed at my table. I always go the concierge at my hotel ( I stay on site) and they refund my credits. Just a little FYI! :)

Doesn't sound like it was a problem that actually warranted a refund if it wasn't significant enough to bring to the attention of restaurant management at the time it occurred...

OP, hope you've gotten to your table and are enjoying a wonderful meal :)

Thanks, we just got seated at 6:35. I am going to talk with guest services, but not looking for any comps.

Okay, I'm no math wizard, but this makes ZERO sense to me.

Hard to believe especially when they always tell you to arrive 15 minutes before your ADR. Maybe they expect you to arrive but not check in.

Unfortunately there are rude people everywhere even at WDW. In general though the CMs are pretty friendly and polite.

50's PTC has been known by my family to have horrible Hosts/Hostesses. The waitstaff are pleasant but when we tried to eat there last December, we checked in 5 minutes before our ADR at 6pm. Sat in the bar area until they would call our name. 6:30 pm rolls around, we're getting hungry. I go ask when we'll be seated they say it shouldn't be but another 5-10 minutes. We shrug it off and go wait some more. 6:45 rolls around I go back up, ask when we'll be seated. They said "Oh we already called your name". I'm like..No you didn't. We never heard our name and we were within spitting distance of the Check in Podium. We should have heard it if they called and our last name isnt something that can be easily confused with many other last names. This got my dad furious, and the manager did nothing. We walked out, hungry, angry and never to go back to 50's PTC.

WOW. That's pretty bad/awful! I can't imagine I would just let that go. I would have been contacting someone. I do not do the whole confrontation or be rude thing but someone would have fixed that situation. That's actually really shocking to me that they turned ya'll away?! :scared1:

One of the flaws of that restaurant is they don't use beepers because "they didn't have them in the 50's". Cute, but really hard to hear them yell when it's really busy. I always insist on hanging near the front door so we don't miss our name, and then it's hit or miss because they usually mispronounce it and badly.

They could be trying to do what my dr. is now doing. You may check in earlier than your appt. time, but the people who come in after you with an earlier appt. will still be seen before you. I guess it makes sense since there are people who try to get there really early and that effectively pushes everybody back. But I don't see the logic at all of refusing to allow you to check in.

WOW! That's all I can say. Luckily we didn't have any problems checking into 50's PTC on our recent trip.

We had this in October and it was irritating. It's 7:30, our ADRs are at 8:00, there are a lot of empty tables and we are told to wait until 7:55. Ok fine. We walk out and go do some more shopping, go back at 7:55 and were told to wait until 8:00. Seriously? We got seated at 8:05. I know, only 5 minutes past our ADR time, but I don't get at all why you can't get checked in early.

Did I mention they were taking walk-ins, too? Yet we had to wait til our ADR time. I was too tired to argue and it was just me and my 2 girls for that dinner, so I didn't want to bother complaining. We ended up getting and awesome server and had a nice, long chat with him after our meal, we may have gotten someone else if we had been seated sooner. He was so good that I even emailed WDW about him :goodvibes

I think some of these restaurants are stuck with computer limitations so they can't act human.....

We waited a long time to be seated at 50s Prime last time... and it was crowded and very hard to hear names being called. It's so much nicer to have ADRs when the restaurant 1st opens.

Some restaurants have a better check-in process than others... and I'm not sure why if they all use the same computer system. Here's a few examples...

Crystal Palace - been there many times and check-in always smooth. If it's a long line to check in, a CM walks the line with the clipboard and checks people in. Much faster.

We had a nightmare at Ohana in 2010. Arrived right on time... but the line to check in was about 20 people long... many who I could hear were walk-ups. So, the line never moves.... I walk up ahead of the line, and the CM checking in says they are having computer problems. So, I wait about 20+ minutes just to check in... (now about 20 minutes past ADR time)... so we wait... and wait... and wait... The 2nd time I asked about the wait, I talked with a manager.... we were told that we were LATE! and so the computer put us in as a walk-up. We were seated nearly an hour past our ADR time... and they acted like they were doing us a favor.... I'll never go there again.

They offered us a table at 7:30 pm after that. Said it was "the next available time". We told Guest Services about it. We were given a gift card to cover whatever meal we had that night. We decided to do a walk up at Brown Derby, which sat us in 5 minutes, we were a party of 4 around 7 pm at night. Much better service, better food. I know 50's PTC is run by Disney, has to be. But the restaurant manager looked like he was just out of High School (I know that's an assumption, but it really seemed like he was very inexperienced) and the host was just rude to me.

This is absurd. If there are empty tables and they are taking walk-ins, why wouldn't they allow you to sit down immediately because you have an ADR? 50's PTC is making things difficult for themselves.

I agree, it was totally absurd. It was our second to last day and we were all tired which is why I didn't even try to fight it. I still don't get the logic behind it. :confused3 The only thing I can figure is by making us wait they could take more walk-ins right away knowing they could have us wait until our ADR time.

I've eaten there 3 times, and each time we've waited quite a while after our ADR time. I think we'll skip it next time.

Whenever I have went to a Table Service Restaurant I always checked in before the scheduled ADR time and that was never a problem. Plus one of the places I have been to is 50's Prime Time Cafe and they never had a problem with that, so I am surprised at the horrible service the OP was given.
