I'm at WDW now. I happened to mention something last night about getting an Everest pin on Thurs. when a CM overheard me and said that they would be filiming for the EE grand opening and that the ride would be closed along with parts of Dinoland. That was the day we were planning to go so we went today instead. EE is a great ride. I still find it strange that they'd close EE on the day of the grand opening :confused3

I saw this information on another message board; a CM posted the notice they all received about it. The ride will only be open to media types on the 6th and 7th. I agree, seems kind of silly, and I would be very disappointed if I was a guest there now and planned to ride it one of those days! I'm glad you heard about it in time to ride it. We're looking forward to riding it during our trip in June!

I doubt this is correct. Many CMs pass along part of a story that they have overheard!

It would not surprise me if the ride is closed part or all of the day on the 6th. There is a media event at EE after the park closes on Thursday and I'm sure Disney will be doing some setting up work for the food, drink, and photo ops for the media.

However, the grand opening is April 7. there is another brief media event scheduled for the morning, but the same was true when Soarin' opened last year. Soarin' was open to the public not long after the park opened. I think (though I don't know for sure) that will be the case with EE on Friday. Otherwise, why would Disney list the official opening day as April 7...

The ride IS closed 4/6 and 4/7. It will *possibly* open in the afternoon 4/7. And, no, this is not something I "overheard" - I was at the meeting when it was announced by management.

I am soooo fortunate to have found out. I really feel bad for those planning on going to AK on Thurs. or Fri. I tried to get in touch with all of my friends spring breaking it down here to warn them. My dds and dh would have been sooooo upset! Hoping this post keeps bumping up so everybody can spread the word.

HUH???

Why ON EARTH would they have this HUGE build-up to an April 7th Grand Opening, and then CLOSE THE RIDE on that same day? If this is indeed true, I think they'll have a lot of VERY UPSET guests on their hands! :confused3

Wow - I have the 8th as my AK am day with my SIL its her first time to AK so we obviously hoped to do EE. I guess we have to plan for the crowds on Saturday am!

The reasoning unfortunately, is because while they care about the people at the parks, they care MORE about the media who is there and impressing them, so that they will write and report great stories all over the world about the attraction to attract people who have NOT visited and are NOT currently there.

I think the company cares about us as frequent visitors but, I think they are driven more to those who have not been and may go.

This is actually a pretty common occurrance to have a media day, but most parks (non-Disney) do a media day at a time previous to the official opening.

I would tend to believe this is true. Bob Igor is in town for the grand opening of EE and BBB.

To add to the discussion... In addition to Expedition Everest not be available Guests on April 6-7, on the 6th Asia will be closing at 3 p.m. and Camp Minnie-Mickey at 4 p.m.

There is only one word to described this: ANNOYING... .I am SO glad I didn't plan a trip for the opening.. and I am SOO sorry to those that planned to go to DAK on the 6th to avoid the crowds on opening or afterwards

DD is going with a school group and the tour director has them going to AK on the 7th only for the am. At a meeting he told them all about EE and how they should ride it and it was the official opening day. I'm thinking, there's no way they will be able to ride it and if I know that, why doesn't he. I guess he doesn't have the DIS! Nancy
