OMG people, he said that he and his wife have *noticed* something in certain female CMs at WDW. He said that the ones they've dealt with *tend to* act in a certain way.

He's not assuming they are all mean, he's not taking away jobs from them, he's not chanting nasty things. They've noticed something, and that's it.

In my life, my husband and I have tended to find that women named Amanda surround our life, and are very helpful. Does that mean we think ALL women named Amanda are helpful? No, I'm sure some are not. Does it mean we make all women in our circle change their names? No it does not. It's just what we've noticed. So we might make an effort to know a woman named Amanda, just like Andy and his wife might make an effort to let a short haired female CM at WDW help *someone else*.

SGMCO, it might have been nice to switch pins, but it was NOT nice to make him choose in that way. That's not how they are supposed to do it.

Here is the link to "how to get started", and below that, there's a PDF for the guidelines. That whole page is good to read!

It happen to us on 2 occasions. My kids are always on a trading Pins marathon, every Cm they see they have to trade a pin!!! So you can imagine that in one day they go through many new ones... i bought the original ones they had on ebay, they were all traded in 30min, all the ones the now have have been traded many times over.

1- My son was refused a Pin, CM said it was fake and refuse to take it even after I told him we had gotten it 10 min prior from another CM. He did apologize. Anyways we traded the rejected pin 15 steps further to another CM ;)

2-Another time, DS traded for a Pin that you could add a name tag. When he tried to trade it back to a CM, he said he wasn't allowed to take personalized CM. Later I saw a CM with the same "personalize" pin and I asked him about trading those... he said no problem as long as they name is not on it. A fellow CM passed by and DS was able to trade him the pin.

So my advice is if the CM doesn't want to trade, go see another one!

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but here goes.....you didn't describe the woman CM who refused to trade but my Wife and I have learned (my wife actually first noticed this) to avoid any female CMs who have super short haircuts. I'm not sure if that tends to mean they are former police or military but they tend to be EXTEMELY strict and pretty unfriendly. If you don't believe me then send one family member through the bag check that has a CM not matching this description and then you go through the line with the short-haired woman and see who gets everything short of a body cavity search.

Bumber - perhaps you missed that bolded line about avoiding ANY CM with super short haircuts. That is what most people would call a blanket statement that makes an assumption about that type of CM. Nowhere does he say it applies to only CMs they have dealt with.

I think lots of us (with the exception of those who are perfect ;)) make judgements about people based on appearance. That's why I warn my kids about certain haircuts, piercings, tattoos, etc. Fair or not, you will be judged by your appearance. Now, of course short hair is not the same as those things I mentioned, but I admit that occasionally I have thought a woman with very short hair might look a little severe or "mean." Mostly its something I have a sense of humor about as I think it was intentioned by the poster.

I agree that people make judgments based on appearance but that is usually upon seeing the person; not necessarily an entire group of people.

Hey! What's wrong with piercings and/or tattoos?;)

I have a a responsible job(nurse) and I've never been arrested. Really, I'm harmless.:lmao: I wish they'd put a tattoo parlor in DTD, I'd get my next tattoo there.

Regarding pins, I've had one bad experience. It was a rude CM at POR that said she didn't feel like trading and walked off:confused3. There was another CM that saw the whole thing and apologized on her behalf. Wait, maybe she saw my tattoos and was disgusted?:)

At this point, I just buy the pins I like.

Nothing wrong with tattoos, I have two myself.

I do not have problem with whatever people think, I have problem when they say it. Asking OP, if CM had a short cut since she was mean and applying that they avoid such ladies because they were mean and to ask to ckeck this theory is totally off in my book. It is a public forum and such statements are offencive.

:( My kids discovered "pin trading" 2 trips ago. We bought a few of those bags of "Mystery Pins" at the gift shop at CR so they could have pins to trade. My kids would be so sad if any of their pins ever got rejected while trying to trade. The CMs that the kids talked to were soooooo nice and it actually helped DD come out of her shell (although she still will only go up to CMs if DS is with her and does the initial talking). The only time there was a problem was that a CM wouldn't give DD the pin that DD wanted. I asked why and the CM said that the pin DD wanted wasn't an "official" Disney pin so she shouldn't even have had it on her book but she got it in a trade. I laughed and told her we were fine with getting a "non" Disney pin if that's what DD wanted. DD still loves that pin b/c it has danglies and sparkles. Obviously we're not professional pin traders and just use it as a way for the kids to socialize. I think if CMs were trading Silly Bandz, DS would go nuts. :rotfl:

like my son traded a cubs baseball mickey pin for a mighty duck pin the funny thing was the CM wasnt a cubs fan she was a white sox but she still traded him cuz she said it was the only pin ur going to find of this one cuz since disney doesnt have mighty ducks rides anymore the only thing i can think of is the mighty duck pinball at disney quest ;)

Umm there was a Mighty Ducks ride?????????:confused3 There are the movies and the NHL team but I don't remember there ever being a ride?

If you make a judgement based on a person's appearance then you are admitting that anyone who fits that catagory of appearance will receive the same judgement.

The reason I used the term "any" in my original post is because I can't tell which ones will be more by the book extreme and which one won't but we DID notice that the CMs who worked the gate who DID have short hair (and when I say short I mean REALLY short) were by the book to the extreme.....while other CMs would look in each compartment of our bags, these virtually made us dump everything out, made my Wife unroll a towel, it just went on and on.....all during this there was NO smile, NO "hello how are you doing". Every other CM we met at the gates was extremely nice.

Perhaps they were similar to my best friend's mother...known her all my life and love her to death. She wore her hair very short and was in law enforcement. While off the job she smiles all the time, loves a good joke, just great to be around. But you put her in her uniform and the smile disappears and she is known as being the most by-the-book officer around. The CMs we had a bad experience with may very well be super nice OFF the job but on the job they were the worst we experienced.

Only on the DIS does an innocent pin trading thread turn into some bizarre thread about people who may or may not be prejudiced against women with short hair! :rotfl2:

BTW, if any CM refused to trade a pin with my DS, I would be devastated. Kids trade pins for fun and CM's who don't embrace that fun shouldn't be allowed to have pin lanyards. And the ones that begged some poor kid not to ask for their Peter pan or "rare" pin should get other jobs, too.

So it was the only one person who did not smile and you generalized others according to that? BTW, short haircut does not indicate anything, it just happened that your mother friend wore her hair this way. Many women do super, super short haicuts just because. We all have some sort of less then magical times in our lives but if we start to awoid every redhead, short, tall, blonde, and so on, just because they look like someone else, well, we may as well just to sit home as the whole world is mean.

WOW! I've never had a CM deny a pin trade with my kids. In fact, My son tried to trade a pin with a CM once and the weld broke and the pin part came off. THe CM gave him a voucher for a free pin.

Also, I think short-hair set is delightful.:banana:

LOL.

I thought the CMs were supposed to trade pins no matter what, as long as they are official Disney pins. Some of these stories are surprising to me.

Short haired women are mean..:rotfl: I thought many women who LIVE here in Fl have short hair due to the heat factor in Fl, not because they were military.... :confused3 With heat index's over 100 in the summer months, some who work outside tend to like the shorter hair..

I have long hair but most of the time it is pulled back due to the heat. One of my DD's has short hair, she hasn't been in the military..nor is she a tyrant to others. She has a pleasant personality when she is dealing with the public. She is a server & her personality is what gets her the good tips..

With that being said, OP has a right to "his" opinion, but he shouldn't have suggested we check that out.

Now back on topic, I was under the impression that the CM's were required to make a trade as long as it was a real Disney Pin (with the stamping on the back). I know it used to be that way when pin trading first took off several years ago.

............. it just happened that your mother friend wore her hair this way. .

No, actually she mentioned that she wore her hair that way because she believed that men took her more serious. She worked with the FL DOT and was one of the ones who pulled semi-trucks over for ispection. Not my words...hers.

So it was her reason, does not mean ALL military women do the same or ONLY military do that. Simple logic.

I didn't say it was. You seem to think I said things I didn't. Tell ya what....next time I won't believe my lying eyes.
