Hello everyone-- thank you in advance for any advice.

I just got off the phone with MDE. . I am trying to change the date of my 10 day PH (from June 16 to June 17), and upgrade to a Parkhopper Plus.

I paid just under $760 from UCT back in November 2022.
The current "value" of a 10 day park hopper from Disney direct is $821.
The upgraded value (to change from June 16 to June 17) is $846.

The MDE cast member wanted to charge me $89 per ticket ($360 for 4 tickets) to upgrade/change dates, which makes no sense to me.

Can someone help me understand what I need to do to get the full value of the ticket? She said that she can only give me the "value" that I paid for the ticket.

Any help would be awesome. Just a little stressed about this bc I had thought I would only have to pay under $30 for an upgrade per ticket (or $120 for 4 tickets). Should I wait until I get to Disney and go to Guest Services instead in person?

Pretty sure this is just the rule when you want to upgrade tickets purchased from a third party.

You can go through Undercover Tourist and return your tickets and repurchase the type you want.
We were able to upgrade and get the full value of our tickets (not the paid value) in the past when we upgraded. It has been a few years, however, so.... has the policy changed? I have always bought from UCT.

I answered your main question on the Ticket sticky, but to answer this -- yes, it changed several years ago when WDW went to date-based tickets. You get credit for the WDW online value of the same ticket as of the date you bought it. Not current value; if a price increase has occurred, you will pay that in your upgrade cost.

You only get what you paid for ticket. What you were told is correct

That is not correct, either.

If you buy a ticket from an authorized reseller for $500 when WDW would have sold you that same ticket on that same day for $550, the credit value towards an upgrade/date change is $550. If WDW has a price increase after you bought your ticket and now sells that same ticket for $575, your credit value is still $550 -- more than what you paid but less than "current" price.

It used to be as you say but they changed it a few years ago. iirc it happened when they went to date based tickets?

Is it possible that this is being complicated by the ticket not having been used yet?
We used to upgrade our tickets but from UCT, but we had to use them in the Parks once before going to upgrade. If we did not use them before doing the upgrade they were worth less in the system and we would have to pay more to upgrade them.

No. Using the ticket before upgrading makes no difference. That did used to be the recommendation but does not matter now. The value of your existing ticket is the price WDW charged for that same ticket on the date your bought it.

Thx. Guess Disney always wins. ;( and I lose.

There’s a lot of very confident but wrong answers here lol. The policy is price paid now, it doesn’t matter what it used to be. If you buy from, Undercover Tourist for example, and you paid $500 for a ticket that would have cost $525 from Disney, you get the value of $500, and you pay the difference between what you paid and what the new value is.
I believe you are incorrect as well as my understanding is the same as lanejudy. What you get is the Disney price the day it was purchased. So using your example - if you paid $500 for a ticket that would have cost $525 from Disney ON THE DAY IT WAS PURCHASED - you will get the $525 credit (not just $500).

The OPs problem is she was looking at the current Disney price for a ticket she purchased months ago which is irrelevant. You do not get the value of any increase in that Disney price since you bought it. This also matches up with my personal experience upgrading.

If you bought from a 3rd party, how does Disney know what you paid for it?

I hate the date based tickets. I returned a ticket to UCT because someone was unable to go in a trip. Normally I would just pocket the ticket and use it with someone else another time since it was never linked. Now, the ticket is a hassle. UCT takes the ticket back and then contacts Disney for a refund to UCT, and they send in the ticket and wait for Disney to respond. Once they get their refund from Disney, I’m suppose to get mine. It’s been over a month while I wait for hundreds of dollars. It’s very depressing. While I wait I have no ticket and no money. Disney has made soooo many things complicated just to make more and more money from the parks. The customer centered mindset has been totally flushed in favor of making more money at every opportunity. Their game, their rules.

Makes me so happy to know that I have made a visit to WDW just a wonderful memory of the past and not at all interested anymore. I had my time there when they didn't go out of their way to just muck up and complicate your enjoyment then bleed every nickel they could get from you. This is the case where "Those were the good old days" applies.

I don't know which version is correct, but based on the above we have 2 versions that various people insist is correct. Which ever way it actually works now, it might be they don't want people to 'game' the ticket price system which would be buying tickets and letting them sit around until the price goes up and they trying to claim the increased price.

At the price of tickets, do you think a lot do this? There are are few here, that say 15 years ago, they bought a handful of non expiration tickets and and 4 AP vouchers and now only have two left.

No idea how many might do this, but seems like Disney is attempting to discourage that practice. Ticket prices consistently go up, so I can see the incentive for some to try to do that if it was possible. Stores have gotten wise to those who buy something on sale and then try to return it at regular price so they can pocket the difference.
