CM Attitudes

I am sorry, but I find it very hard to believe that any guests are "spitting" on CMs during the parades. I have never seen this once but as described, you would think it happens all the time.

I'm going to assume the spitting was accidental. Spitting on someone can be considered assault. I can't imagine those "Disney secret security guys" would tolerate such behavior from guests.

Maybe because their pay stinks and people keep getting more and more demanding. I wouldn't wanna work there.

By this logic, I find it hard to believe anyone has ever actually been "pixie dusted" on Peter pan. I've been going almost yearly since 1977 and have never ONCE been dusted nor seen anyone be dusted.

Maybe it's just me but if you want a talk of social decline. I've seen some rude guests as of late. Almost directly proportional to the amount of rude CM's.

I won't say what my career is in just that it is probably the profession you most trust. Let me tell you when I have had individuals screaming at me repeatedly I go into "bare minimum" mode you will get your results it just may take an hour or five because you wanted to act like a donkey to my colleagues and myself. I can understand a CM or any job doing the same thing when confronted with rude screaming patrons.

I just returned today from our week long trip to Disney and I would have to say at BLT and Typhoon lagoon the cast members where very friendly and what I expect when I go to Disney.. Now at the parks was a different story.. It was hit or miss and seemed like the guests were a bother to most of the cast members..

As for being unhappy with their pay everyone knows that you don't make a lot working at Disney unless you work your way up in the company that's how most company's work.. Also everyone has a choice and agree on their pay coming into the job.. if at anytime you don't like it no one is holding you there..

All and all we had a good time.. We went with a family that has never been so it was extra special to see the joy it brought them just going to the parks..

I won't disagree there!!! LOL!!!

By definition sharing one's experience is sharing anecdotal info. Nothing wrong with that... Especially on a message board!! The part I find funny is all the conclusions people are willing to draw based upon that anecdotal info. Doesn't actually make any sense, but happens all the time...

I'm so accustomed to the silly conclusions in this thread in everyday life that I don't even see them anymore.

"These darned kids and their Apple Phones.....they're going to ruin everything our parents worked for that we haven't already ruined, I tell ya!"

EDIT: Wait, why does this thread get moved to the forum where threads are sent to die? Does it relate less to planning than "Do you cry at Disney"?

We went two weeks ago. I had no problems with any of the CM's The HM CM's told us all to move to the middle of the room, the TofT CM's were appropriately creepy, and the young female CM's kept their composure when being screamed at by grown men while keeping lanes cleared for parades. I have no idea if anyone sprinkled on me.

I work 8 hours a day. I wonder if at anytime during those 8 hours, there could be a look on my face that could be perceived incorrectly.

As far as the magic, pixie dust moments not happening, I think too many people read about other guests receiving this or that and then they go and demand the same. Too many entitled guests constantly demanding pixie dust and then compensation when they feel they were dusting enough.

I never saw a CM with a cell phone, and do not believe they would be allowed to have them during working hours

I've been going to DisneyWorld since 1989. I don't expect anything from what I read on this board on any other. I also certainly don't expect compensation for lack of CM interaction.

When we encounter a CM that is doing their job in an excellent manner, we always go to guest services before we leave and fill out a comment card. That is absolutely the best way to reward a CM for a job well done.

As I said, it wasn't rudeness ( other than talking shop with another CM during working hours and in front of guests is a huge no-no and I saw it many times)..it's simply a matter of trip after trip, the quality of CM's has consistently gone down.

lol!!!

Maybe they're sharing the best crying STRATEGIES??

FWIW, I can only remember a handful of times when we have been "pixie dusted" on Peter Pan's Flight, and I have been going to WDW since 1971.

Same here - going since the MK opened and actually I don't ever remember getting 'pixie dusted'!! Didn't realize there was such a thing and it's one of my dh favorite rides. :confused3

Also, can't relate to 'meh', 'indifferent', 'rude' or whatever CM's. They've all seemed pretty upbeat to me especially considering the monotony of some of their jobs.

So, you logically connect someone being "pixie dusted" with CMs getting spit on in a parade? That is not logic. You are trying to connect dots that aren't there.

I think she was saying the logic is the same here:

- "I don't believe people spit on CMs BECAUSE I'VE NEVER SEEN IT"
- "I don't believe people get "pixie-dusted" on PP BECAUSE I'VE NEVER SEEN IT"

My personal, anecdotal experience determines whether something does/should happen or not. :)

I think it is likely that pixie dusting has occurred on PP in the past; probably not enough for it to be an expectation, but if some people hear about it happening they feel it should happen to them, as unreasonable as that might be.

I think it is likely that a guest has, in some context, spit on or at a CM in a parade. Maybe they were trying to speak and sprayed it, or were from a culture where spitting in the street is common and didn't mean to spit on someone, who knows. But I don't believe it's such a common occurrence that CMs don't want to be in the parade because of it, not without knowing a lot more about it.

So level-headed... Love it, seriously... thumbs-up! :)

I think the Disney College Program participants know they are going to be working a lot of hours and they definitely know their hourly pay prior to accepting their role.

My daughter starts tomorrow and is very excited. She worked at least 40 hours/wk. over the summer and I assume she's going to be dragging if/when she works 60 hours a week at WDW. Hopefully she'll still be peppy and cheerful (and if she gets PP, hopefully she'll sprinkle pixie dust her entire shift) but I assume she might not be as peppy as she is at the beginning of her shift by the time the end of the day comes.

Disney is now putting three people to a room in some of the DCP apartments which will most likely add a little more stress to the DCP participants. I think they just started doing that over the summer so some participants were impacted during their program. For the participants starting now, they'll most likely start with three in a room so it shouldn't be as upsetting as it might have been for those just finishing their programs.

Regarding the pay, my D saved a lot of the money she earned over the summer to supplement her WDW earnings so she won't need to pick up extra shifts for the money. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she won't have many weeks where she has to work much over 40 hours and that should help her maintain a positive attitude. We'll see how it goes and how she adjusts to the hours, heat/humidity, and roommates (the first time she's ever had them).

If between now and January 5 you encounter a 5' tall attractions attendant with shoulder length blond hair with an attitude, PM me and I'll call her and tell her to shape up LOL.

I felt the CM's at my hotel (All Star Music) we're pretty uninterested, especially at the restaurant. I mean they weren't flat out rude, but they usually weren't attentive.

Being a CM is not easy. You have to be extremely patient and diplomatic.

There were guests that were angry about the prices and other issues before FP+

I had one guest fling a stroller so hard that it hit the wall with a huge bang as he left. (He didn't try to engage me or any other CM) He just wanted to leave. Another went into a long tangent about how expensive a hot dog. I tried not anger them further but let them vent. And then try to be sympathetic.

As a CM you have to have tough skin.

. Actual experiences are not speculation conclusions drawn are speculation. There is a general decline in experience just like in the early 2000's in Disneyland and WDW upkeep. Because of the complaints they stepped in and corrected things. I think the same thing will happen this time. One media report ( remember this old park March 2004 in the Orlando Sentinel) that report turned things around.

I think that if the conversation was private, it was not meant for guests to hear. I think that everyone who works has a conversation that if heard by outsiders, would tarnish their impression of the company. This is no different. I was always told that if I eavesdropped on a conversation, I needed to be prepared for what I heard.

I didn't eavesdrop on anyone! This was free discussion to me/with me/texted to me. Very unprofessional. I would think this would be a training point even to young workers.
