We are thinking of vacationing somewhere other than WDW this May. We are looking at Punta Cana - Club Med. Does anyone have any recent reviews? Is it easy to leave Club Med and visit places outside of the resort?

I've read tripadvisor but more feedback is always better.

Also any idea's are welcome. We are a family of 5 with young kids (6, 4, and 2) so Club Med's childcare that includes the 2 year old is a big plus for us. We are open to traveling within the US or outside and not too much $$$. Club Med is running a special and the only reason we are considering it.

We found a few other places that interested us but we would need to get 2 hotel rooms which really makes it too much money since our kids are so young.

We are all over the place in our thinking, Williamsburg, South Dakota, Cancun, California have all been brought up. We can't get it narrowed down, so tell me about your vacations.

I don't have a recent review but my parents took us there when I was a teen and my brother was 8. It was a great trip - lots to do. I would read on trip advisor what condition the resort is in (have they renovated, etc) but the kids' camps at club med are good.

Beaches is running a special now too.

ETA: There are tours, etc that you sign up for to leave the resort. At the time we were there, I took a horsebacking riding tour that was fun. From my last experience in DR, I am not sure you'd want to be out roaming outside the resort on your own - not necessarily dangerous - just a lot of poverty.
