Hi Amanda,
I got some expert advice on this a few weeks ago. I had to call a service person when smoke started rolling out of my dishwasher. I had noticed the cloudy glasses but hadn't noticed that the heating coil was also coated with mineral deposits from our water. He spent a long time scraping the coil and then said to use Citric Acid (can be purchased at a pharmacy) in the soap dispenser. He told me to do this with the washer empy and start it after the last wash cycle. I did that several times but then decided to put all my cloudy glasses and Pyrex in the washer and it worked like a charm. The cleaning solution CLR also works well but must be added directly to the rinse water. I use this every 2 or 3 weeks to help keep the coil mineral free. The service man didn't mention it but I'm also now using Jet Dry regularly. My sister lives next door, we are on the same water line and have the same brand of dish washer. She didn't have the mineral accumulation and it turns out she had been using Jet Dry regularly.
