clothing size for a four year old girl...

My DD5 (just turned 5) is a 6 in pants (alittle tall) and wears a small/medium in girls shirts. I would say she is a little on the big side for a 5 year old.

4T unless you have other knowledge.

Typically if they are under 50% on the growth chart, they might have to grow into it (as my girls did at around age 4). If they are higher--especially 75%-100% for a 4yo, a 4T will be too small.

My older DD wore a size 5 or 6 at 4 years old, but my younger DD, who will be 4 soon, is still in a 3T. If in doubt, buy a 4T and give gift receipts.

That can range greatly. I've known 4 yo's that wear a 3t and 4 yo's that wear a size 14/16:scared1:.

The size can vary depending on the child. My 4 year old is in size 4/5. She's on the smaller side. My older dd was in a size 6 when she was that age but she's always been off the growth charts on the tall side.

You should really ask-- my daughter was a 3t when she was 4 years old and her friend was in a size 8 at 4 years old!:scared1: We got lots of hand me downs though!!!

Usually a 4T, or a 4/5 is a pretty safe bet.

My DDs all stayed pretty close to their ages in sizes. Right now DD9 wears a size 9 or 10 in most things... warning rant ahead: WHY OH WHY do most little girls' sizes go 7/8 then skip to 10/12??? There is a whole world of difference between those two sizes!! DD couldn't wear a 7/8 if her wee little life depended on it, but SWIMS in a 10/12! Thank heavens for Gymboree and their dedicated size 10 clothes... no 12 involved. Ok, rant over.

DD6 is tiny, and wears a 5. Most size 6 stuff is just too big, and for warm weather she can still wear size 4 shorts (don't have to worry about length). But she is definitely small for her age, most kids her age are wearing size 6/6X.

As a previous poster mentioned, that is a very hard question to answer. Every kid is different. When my DD was four years old, she wore size four. My friends DD, at the same age, wore a size six.

Is she big for her age? Small?? Average? My 4yo wears a 6/6x... But she is off the charts size wise. She is almost as tall as her 7yo brother.

I bought my DD (4) a bunch of gymbo stuff, size 5, fits perfectly with the adjustable waist cinched in.

I bought her a pair of jeans at Target, size 5, and she's swimming in them even with the adjustable waist adjusted she can't wear them, too much baggyness at the hips and too long to even roll up.

It not only depends on the kid, it depends on where the clothes are from.

I would not buy unless you know the correct size. I've given away tons of clothes given to my dd by family who didn't know her size. Even if you know the size, get a gift receipt. Sizes vary between makers.

Another vote to ask, if you can at all. My youngest is now 6, and he wears a 5/6 in most things; dnephew is 3, and he wears the same size.

Ask or get a gift card. My girls were in 5 6 or 7's depending on brand and length.

My daughter just turned 4 and she is in a 2T, 3T. She is no on the charts though for height and weight. I think it is best to ask it is to hard to guess. OH yeah and she only wears a size 6 shoe.... she is just little all around.

Not only do kids vary in size but different manufactures clothing runs differently. I know when our kids were toddlers, Children's Place ran REALLY small, but Gap and Old Navy ran big so it depends on where you are shopping too. Best call AND let the mom know where you are planning on buying the clothing--or send gift receipts if they need to exchange for size.

If he/she is an average size kid, go with 4/5 and make sure you get a gift receipt so it can be returned if necessary.
