We're taking DD (8 months) to WDW for the first time in just 11 days!! What type of clothing would you recommend for her? We're packing sunhats (and plenty of sunblock). We have shorts/sunsuits for daytime, and long pants and sweaters/jacket for the evening. I'm a little worried about her getting burnt, even if we're really careful about sunblock. Not sure if I should put her in lightweight long pants during the day...do you think she'd be too hot? What about socks/shoes? I saw a thread a while ago that a CM wouldn't let a child into a restuarant with exposed feet.

Looks like they're having upper 80s highs and mid 60s lows in the next 10 days. Your plan sounds good with the shorts for day and jacket and pants for evening. Just have a little of everything with you. I assume you will have a stroller so it hopefully will have a top that can provide some shade.

Maybe sandals would be good for shoes?

I agree, I think you have a good plan for daytime as well as evening. Just pack layers with you for your trips to the parks. You can always add or take off. I can't imagine they wouldn't let your baby into a restaurant because her feet would be exposed. Maybe for a child that is walking they might have restrictions. Make sure your stroller has good sun coverage as well as a sun hat. I hope you have a great trip!!! pixiedust:

I would put socks on her feet and not worry about shoes, unless she wears them all the time anyway. My kids always wore socks and shoes every time we left the house from the time they were born. I don't know what it is, I just have this thing about bare feet in public, it just seems gross to me even if it's a baby. (OK, and I love shopping for cute little baby shoes!) Plus, if they're used to them, you don't suddenly have a battle on your hands when you HAVE to start putting them on all the time.

Bring what you plan to bring and bring changes of clothes in the diaper bag. I took my then 7 mo. old daughter in January. We had a couple of days where it became downright hot. I was not prepared for that. At one point I stripped her down to her onesie. Another time I bought her an adorable princess: outfit so she'd be properly dressed for lunch with Cinderella! One big positive about Disney is they sell everything!!!

Parents in the deep South use lots of lightweight receiving blankets for just this reason. Keep her dressed lightly enough for the daytime heat, and bring some socks, a sweater and an extra blanket for after the sun goes down. (Sometimes restaurants require socks on crawlers.) Use a light-colored lightweight blanket to keep the sun off her legs if she is sleeping or sitting in a stroller.

Slightly long dresses are usually the best springtime wear for baby girls in the sub-tropical South, especially when travelling. They are loose and comfortable, and make changes very easy.

I'd also recommend trying to stay out of the sun (in shows, on covered rides, in a shady spot, etc) as much as possible between 10am and 2pm. We had a sunsuit (solarveil long sleeved jacket and pants) but it was way too hot to wear unless there was a breeze. We just kept a close eye out for anything turning pink and tried to keep her in the shade between 10 and 2 and were fine. We did get one of those sunshade extenders though, so that when she was napping in the stroller we didn't have to worry about walking her into the sun.

Thank you for all of your tips and suggestions! Sounds like we're on track with a variety of clothing and layering in the evening. Still not sure about the socks/shoes/sandals...sounds like people are split on this. Thanks again, and I hope everyone is enjoying their planning!

Here is a southern weather gal report.....and how to dress your young un's.

It got to 85 at the zoo today. The kids were so ready to get drenching wet, eat ice cream, and strip their clothes off...it's not even humid Florida either.

It's 8:49 pm at night...past kids bedtime...and my weather bug says 78.
Stepping out side in my t-shirt, shorts and flip flops feel great right now.

That child will just DIE in a sweater. Save sweaters for December thru February. Even if you HAVE to bring a sweater, use cotton only, even in the dead of winter. I have one wool sweater that never gets used.

I suggest short sleeve shirt and capri pants and sandals for evening wear....if she is even awake at this hour. Blanklet? Very lightweight, at night when sleeping with the AC on.

Daytime...shorts and t shirts with sneakers. Use a tank top ONLY if stroller has a shade, child has hat, and slathered in sun screen. If the child in stroller is wearing sandals, put sunscreen on their feet. My kids little feet would stick out and get burnt between the straps.

Lots of liquid..those little babies dehydrate too.
