Clothing for girls once they grow past size 6X...

Ugh...this is definitely a problem at our house with DD's 8 and 10. We searched the world over to find shorts for school that are long enough and not - to quote older DD - "ugly khaki Grandma knee shorts". We found some success at Limited Too on clearance (had to sort through the trash first). Got long enough shorts for both girls at $4.99-$6.99 each - not bad and it satisfied their craving for the store. Also picked up some T's there for $4.99 - funny how DD,8 needed a size 14 and DD,10 needed a 16 to keep them fairly loose fitting!! Also have some luck at Old Navy and Gap Outlet - neither are too trashy...just have to get larger shirt sizes as stated above. SO glad I don't have a teen squeezing herself into one of these T-shirts right now!!!

Now about this 80's stuff...not too cute IMO. Still tight and short and lots of polyester. Some of it is ok, but I didn't wear it then and I'm not sure DD's will wear it now!! Preppy all the way!

Can't wait for the new Gymboree line for younger DD!!!!

My dd, now almost 11, is 5'1" and about 84 lbs. It's really hard to find things that fit the poor beanpole. I've had pretty good luck at JC Penny. Yes, there was some stuff there I would never buy. But I have been able to find some decent stylish stuff that wasn't 'hoochie mama' like. There is no way I'm paying LT2 prices. $35 for a pair of jeans? For an 11y/o? Not in this lifetime. Old Navy is fine but I can't always find jeans to fit. GapKids is pretty good but a little expensive. Funny, but the only piece of clothing this child has insisted on for school this fall? A Gap sweatshirt. Fine by me.

I'll second the Limited Too mention. They do stock a good amount of appropriate clothing for young girls...you just have to look. DD12 finds most of her clothes there (on the clearance racks). Most of the shorts have decent waists (right at belly button level) and most of the tops are fairly conservative. Their clothes are very good quality and their clearance prices can't be beat!

As for the shorts with the words on the butt...we let DD wear those shorts to her dance classes (most of hers say "DANCE" anyway) and that is all. It allows her to wear them and yet I still maintain the control ;) .
