It's ages until we go to Florida but I wondered what are good clothing bargains?

I was thinking along the lines of getting sunglasses (eg. Rayban or Oakley) and clothing from Gap for both adults & the kids and Merrell trainers. Can these be found at the shopping malls quite easily and what sort of price comparison are these things to the UK. 50% cheaper???

Thanks

PP

Hi PP,
Most things are the same in $$ as they are in ££'s so with the dollar at 1.90ish, you'll find plenty of bargains.
We have bought plenty of Oakleys over the years in the US, and the great thing is, that if they break, or you lose a lens, you can get free replacements from any dealer here in the UK. The prices of Oakleys are pretty much the same all over the US, and can be found at Sunglass Huts in any Mall. There is also a Sunglass Hut outlet at the Premium Outlets at LBV.

Why not join the Premium VIP - and get extra discount when you go!!

Last summer we got an extra 30% off our entire Timberland purchase! And went mad in perfumia!! Have a look at their website!
Hope this helps.

Where do people go the shop for teens clothes & trainers in the US? I almost never shop but our friends who are going with us next year will have a 12 & 13 (almost 13 & 14) year old girls when we go and they will probably be getting $$$ for the next birthday & xmas gifts from alot of people and i'm sure it will be burning a hole in thier pocket

:yay:

Hi Jodie,
Teenage clothes are hard to buy over here, well I always found 12 -14/15yrs hard anyway! When mine were that age, we shopped alot in JC Penneys - my DD (now 20!) used to love their Mudd jeans and shoes!!
Boys are a little easier as you can find jeans and T shirts anywhere!
Dillards also stock gear that kids love.. Jessica Simpson ranges of shoes etc..
Try having a look at a few websites before you go, to see which stores stock teenage gear!
Good luck!

You can't beat Florida Mall for 'girly' shopping my DD spent a fortune there over Christmas her favourites are Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle & Forever 21 & Aeropostale to name but a few there is also a 'funky' little shop called Hot Topic (near food court) that sells a lot of 'goth' type stuff. I know that isn't everyones cup of tea but some of their t-shirt logos & stuff are quite funny :)

Lisash... my DD loves Abercrombie and Fitch too!! They went mad in there last summer! Lol!!

Thanks guys, i'll pull up some websites. I want to research before we go so I don't waste too much time shopping & not buying!

I've not been to FLorida yet but my SIL and FIL have been several times and they do lots of shopping. Here's a good website for the Florida Mall, if you click on mall directory on the left it lists all the different stores inside, and from there you can go to some of the stores own websites to plan what you want to buy before you go!

Hope this helps

i bought my Oakleys last July in the Oakley shop in Florida Mall, sunglass hut and the others did not have what i wanted but prices where similar in the 2 shops, and like Tracey says same price in dollars as in pounds

We are massive shoppers when over in the US. As previous posters have mentioned it is mostly $ for £. However there are some other real bargains to be had.

We find that GAP, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger stuff is really seroiously good value when compared to the UK. The Gap outlet at Premium Outlets is particularly good as is the one at LBV Stores.

For real good value try Macy's - never believe the prices on the tickets. Use their little scanners on the pillars in store (Like the one's in Tesco's to scan how much your beans are). Macy often have 'Sales' that they don't advertise.

REAL BARGAIN ALERT: When in Macy visit the Gift Registry in any Macy's and request their Foreign Visitors Discount Card (Not called that but they will know what you mean). This enables you to get a furtehr 11% off any purchase - Sale or not (Exlcuding fragrances and cosmetics though).

I have picked up Tommy shirt's for well under £10 on more than a couple of occasions using this method. Most of the time it is cheaper than the outlets....

Hope this helps..?

Our 2 DS 16 and 21 love Abercrombie and Fitch and they also got some nice clothes over at the Milenium Mall and some BOSS stuff at the Premium Outlets

I found all the Malls very reasonable compared to our prices. My son who was 15 last time we went, bought some Jordan trainers for less than half of what he would have paid for them over here.

The new Premium Outlet store (think its been open a couple of years now) is also amazing. DH bought 2 pairs of Hush Puppy shoes for $30.

Also there are perfumes which you either cannot get over here, or that don't come on sale here for a couple of years. OPI nail varnish - £9-£10 here but $3 in Walgreens.

I could live in that store !! :worship:

Just another tip.. for anyone going at the end of July... its tax free time!!!! LOL! There are even more savings to be made on this 'back to school' sale!!
Shop till you drop!! LOL

OMG. I reckon I am going to have to either...

a) Only take a few items of clothing with me and buy the rest out there
or
b) Pack a holdall (or two) and fill that with my purchases

I am going to have a HUGE shopping list!

Another tip, I think it was LBV Factory stores, the Perfume shop sells complete testers of perfumes, not in fancy packaging, but at a bargain price compared to the fancy consumer boxed versions. These are the testers as supplied to the major stores.

As far as i am aware this is only on items for school i.e clothing and accessories for school, not on everything you buy

Ali,
You should be ok for the tax free sale.. I think it will start 21st/22nd and be on for the following week.. so you should be ok!! Hey, and if you get driving over there... you'll be able to visit more stores!!! Be sure to get your VIP vouchers for the Premium Outlets!!
With regards to what you can buy.. the sale is on all clothing (not just kids) and shoes, but there is a limit to $50's per item (if I can remember correctly). We check out what we are going to buy, before the sale, then buy it over the tax free week, giving us that extra saving!
Tracy

thanks Tracy

I usually get our DS's school sweetshirts as the wash better or I should say keep their colour better than the ones sold here and they are so cheap

We buy loads at Old Navy for DS and at Christmas I got long sleeved T- tops for $4 each. I bought six (one in each colour)
