Hi all,

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for some clothes shops. In the last few months I've found myself shopping mainly in Gap and Next, does anyone know which US "high street" stores carry similar style fashions? I know there was a Gap Outlet at Beltz which I hope is still there but I'd like to be on the look out for some nice clothes at all the various malls.

Express used to be good a few years ago, not too sure as don;t really look for clothes when on holiday other than the sports brands.

Claire ;)

Old Navy and Banana Republic are decent GAP replacements. Of couse you can always just to the GAP istelf....

American Eagle and Abercrombie & Fitch are US stores that are also very popular, at the Florida Mall and the Mall At Millenia.

That was exactly what I was going to say. :)

I am a next addict too, but JC Pennneys has some nice clothes in the Florida Mall. There are lots of small boutiques with lovely stuff too. :goodvibes

GAP is US shop (not a British one), so they are EVERYWHERE in the US. I also like Banana Republic and Old Navy.

That's what I was thinking. Some of the sub-departments within Macy's (department store) are good.

Maybe "J Crew" & "The Limited". Victoria's Secret is quite good for some underwear if you want some of that.

Is it just me or do "Abercrombie & Fitch" seem a bit "young"? Maybe it is the blarring rock music they seem to play in the one I go into in LA, but I get put of very quickly and never try anything on in there...

Big Next and Gap fan as well and while in the US shop a lot in Old Navy and American Eagle, I also find a lot of lovely clothes at New York & Company in the Florida Mall.

we found the best gap outlet was at lake buena vista outlet, rest of that centre not great but the gap shop is worth the trip on its own.

also as others have said lots of shops at florida mall that are similar but cant remember the name :confused3

A&F is firmly targeted at the collegiate demographic. My girls loved it when they were younger, but even they've more-or-less outgrown it now. I can't help smiling when I see people over here in their 40s and 50s proudly sporting their A&F garb. The Hollister brand (part of the A&F group), is aimed at the same 14-18 age-group. Lucky Brand Jeans is nicer, but very expensive. At the Mall at Millenia, there is a huge Urban Outfitters - much bigger than any I know of over here.

Banana Republic is part of the GAP empire and sits somewhere between GAP and Next in terms of the product, although the range is nowhere near the size of Next.

You will find Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft outlets at most malls (but a bit 'old' for you, I would say). Guess is young/trendy, but fairly expensive. The Limited is cheap with a constant turnover of stock (not really my cup of tea, but popular).

Wow Deb, you really know your stuff, next trip I'm taking you along as my personal shopper and let you show me around the malls :teeth:

Just wanted to say that I love Banana Republic too and found it a nice cross between Gap and Next :thumbsup2

If shopping at Abercombie & Fitch makes me feel young enough to be at College then that's good enough for me :thumbsup2

My personal favourite shop is the Tommy Bahama store at the Mall At Millenia, building up a healthy collection of shirts from there now!

Slightly off thread but can highly recommend Wilson's Leatherwear at the Florida Mall - friendly service, great for messenger type bags etc

I did try to browse a few stores in the Millenia mall, but DH dragged me out kicking and screaming  :confused3
Premium outlets has a few oddends of nice Armani stuff. Nice undies too. I also like Tommy Bahamas, and a few of the surf shops for some nice tees ans cossies. :thumbsup2

I notice one on the website for Florida Mall, called 'Forever 21', which I intend to try this year. I really like the look of their stuff and the prices seem pretty reasonable as well.

That makes sense re Abercrombie & Fitch... The "skirts" I saw in there shop at Christmas were difficult to differentiate from their "wide belts"... (ok, that might be a sign of me getting old... :rotfl: ).

Guess was the one I was trying to think of, but couldn't (have a stinking cold at the moment and my brain has turned to mush :( ) - I like their things...

Agree with "Ann Taylor" - have never been in because the clothes in the window shout "more mature woman" at me... (may not be "Abercrombie & Fitch", but I am not "Ann Taylor" yet either... ;) ).
