I attended my nieces wedding this weekend. I had a very hard time finding a dress. I finally found one in August from Cabin Creek. I looked at the label this morning and it was 100% Rayon, I have to Dry Clean it. Grrr.

My niece asked all her bridesmaids to wear black in any style they wanted. It worked out really well. My niece was in 20 weddings, so she asked all those couples to wear black also.

Anyway, what is the matter with designers. Everytime I turn on the tv, I hear how, so and so is designing clothes-yet their are no decent dresses in any stores. I am 44, I do not want to dress like my 21 yr old dd would wear, yet I don't want wear what 70-80 yr olds wear. I think cloth designers are really missing the boat on what 30, 40's & 50 yr olds needs are. If we were all teachers, we would have no problems, plenty of jumpers out there, but jumpers have been around now for 20 years.

Almost everyone in my age group at the wedding hand a long or a short tank dress on, with some kind of shall, or cover up. We all agreed that it was very difficult to find a decent dress. We also laughed about those skirts with bold designs and huge pleats, made us look like hippo's dancing with the umbrella's.

We all decided we need A-line dresses, no slinky-see throughs, just some nice patterned dresses or solid colors.

I have just resigned my self to the fact I will never find a dress I like, SO, I wear suits to almost all dress functions these days. I can wear them more business like with a colored blouse or I have some fancy camisoles that I can were under them to dress them up.

Looking for mother of the bride and groom dresses were horrible for our wedding! I helped both moms and it was just terrible. Everything was either way too young (strapless) or much too matronly. I'm still not thrilled with what my mom wore, but I know she truly had NO other options.

(It was fine, really, it was the tank dress with jacket style, and the dress didn't fit right, which was covered up by the jacket-bugged me she spent so much money on a dress that wasn't perfect if that makes sense)

His mom seriously didn't find anything until the month before the wedding.

Amen!!!!!!!

I am sick and tired of shopping for nice clothes and seeing clothing that is either designed to make teenage girls look like streetwalkers or clothing that is designed for my prudish 80 year-old grandmother.

That's one of the many reasons I sew. I can make things that are modest yet stylish enough. When you throw in the facts that I'm petite, wear a 30H bra, and need dresses that I can nurse in, buying off the rack is impossible. I buy fabrics online that are actually from designers like Liz Claiborne, and I modify patterns so that they look like clothes in stores rather than like homemade clothes.
