Cloth Diapering & WDW

If you're staying somewhere with a convenient washer, go for it. No different from at home. Otherwise, someone on this board mentioned actually using an Orlando diaper service for their trip. Go for it!! We were planning to but DS potty trained before we went.

As for the washers question.
No, you don't have to sterilize the washer or anything like that. You're not washing solids of any kind. Those get flushed ahead of time. Washing the diapers isn't any worse than washing clothes that a kids had an accident in. Washers are made to get things clean.

WE did it. Totally easy. Totally do-able. SERIOUSLY.

We did Fuzzibunz, (love those) and they were seriously easy. Just throw them in a trash bag and when you need to throw them in the washer. How much easier could it be?

Vester

How many diapers did you bring and how often were you washing them?
We have 28 BG 3.0's and I do not want to buy anymore cloth diapers nor do I want to be washing every night.

And there is no need to sanitize a washer after you wash diapers. Trust me it is clean. In fact I would be more concerned about what would get on the diapers from the washing machine. Most detergents and all fabric softeners can cause a cloth diaper to lose its absorbency for those that do not know.

Well I did it last year, but I don't think I'm going to when we go next month.

Last year I brought 15 diapers and did laundry every other day. That wasn't bad, but the washer in the hotel totally made 2 of my BG's and one of my Goodmamas repel like crazy. I had to buy dawn and strip them myself, and then after that I was really paranoid every I time I washed them. I actually ran the washer on a cycle without diapers before I'd even put them in, just trying to get anything residual out, but I'm sure it was the dryer...which sucks because there's nothing you can do about that!

This year I thought about buying some G-dipes, but eh, I think I'm just going to buy some sposies for the week we're there, just because it seems easier. Oh well...

Not trying to start a debate about diapering, but I'm curious about what you do to sanitize the washers after using them to get them ready for the next guest?

I agree with the others, no need to sanitize. There's no solids in any diapers. It would be like washing sheets that your child had an accident on! The washer gets everything nice and clean, including itself!!:rotfl:

I think the problem w/ buying G-diapers is you are spending more $$ than a couple packs of disposables would cost you.

So disposables it is. I paid too much money for my CD's to have them ruined by another washing machine.

Ya know, I never thought about this. Thank you everyone for bringing this up. I'd hate for my bububebes and BG to "pick something up" while we are at WDW. I'm super cautious about my laundry at home. I have never used fabric softner or dryer sheets in my current machines, and the only detergent I've used in them is Planet and Seventh Generation (we have an aerobic septic that sprays our side yard near our horse pasture, so we will only use biodegradable detergents).

As it is, I'l probably wipe out the dryer in our villa before doing regular clothes to remove as much residue as possible. I don't want my nice cotton bibs to repel either!

I hadn't thought about the washer/dryer ruining the diapers, either. I usually do a rinse before the wash cycle - I suppose you couldn't do that with a coin operated machine. You also have to consider the temp of the dryers - they might be too hot for diapers that have a waterproof lining. You could always line dry in your room, I suppose.

I loves me my Fuzzibunz - I'd hate to have them ruined!

Just a warning, we tried to line dry a few things in our room last time, and nothing dried. Not at all. All week long. It was completely frustrating, and we brought home wet clothes and a few wet diapers, it was bad! I have no idea why they wouldn't dry, I did a trial run at home and they dried just fine. But I have spoken to a few other people who had this experience too, so be warned!

And yes, my diapers are beloved to me as well. :lmao: No hotel washer/driers ruining my diapers!

Yeah my cloth diapers are 'babied' in every way..so it was soooo frustrating when that happened to me! I was able to strip the two BG's but the one Goodmama never really worked right after that..it's a totally last resort diaper in my stash!! Talk about frustraing, GM's are SOOO expensive! How do you like your Bububebes? I ordered four a few months ago and LOVE THEM. I actually like them better than my Goodmamas! I only have about 10 fitted diapers in my stash, the rest are all BG's and Blueberries, but man I LOVE those bububebes, plus they are SOOO cute!!

I haven't really had a chance to use the B4s much, as my DS is only 2.5 months old. I bought them last fall because they were on sale and I've heard such good things about them. He just doesn't need that much of a diaper yet, he's sleeping through the night okay right now in a GMD prefold and a thirsties cover.

Cottonbabies just had a seconds sale on BG 3.0s, and I'm kicking myself for not ordering more. I only ordered 6 because I didn't know how "second quality" they were. I honestly can't find anything wrong with them, and 3 of them aren't even marked as seconds. Oh well.

My stash is still in the transition stage from newborn/infant to one size. DS is starting to outgrow his GMD prefolds and thirsties duo covers, so I need to start looking. I have 6 BG organics, 6 BG, and 4 B4s right now.

How do the Blueberries compare to BG?

Aggiegirl, how do you like your BG organics in comparison to the 3.0's? Prior to ordering our 3.0's I never even noticed the snaps on the organics and they look so much nicer.

We usually do a combo of FBs and fitteds. When we have a washing machine, we will then cd on vacation. Last year our ds was an infant while we were at disney and he was wearing sposies and what a disaster. We were on Small World and poop leaked out everywhere on me. So this year will not have a washer again. He gets a chemical burn with sposies so the fleece is a good idea. I am curious about the seventh generation. How are they different and are they as absorbent as as sposie?

My BG organics are actually the old style with the aplix, not the snaps, so the outside and fit is pretty much exactly the same. Otherwise, we have had some problems getting the organics prepped. I've washed them 7 times so far and they still aren't absorbing well. I know cotton needs a lot of prepping, but I'm afraid by the time I get the insides prepped that the covers and aplix will be quite worn. :confused3 I got them on clearance when they were phasing out the aplix, so at least I didn't pay full price for them.

I have a few other snap closure diapers/covers, and they really don't work well for us. We just can't get the fit right in the legs on DS with the snaps right now. He is 75% for height and 95% for weight though. I am thinking the new thirsties covers with snaps might work ok since they also have leg gussets.

I like my blueberries, but I still think the BG's are better for overnights. The blueberries are a little lesss bulky for daytime, plus they have snaps, which my BG's don't. But all in all it's hard to beat BG's.

We CD full time and did sposies while on our 10 day trip to WDW last fall.

It was nice to not have to do laundry, but I would do a trial run before leaving because DS leaked through the sposie every. single. night. It got old.

We will probably do another trial run of night time sposies before our Nov trip to see if he still leaks through the night, because it is just so much easier to not worry about laundry & the washers & dryers during vacation (and we usually do laundry twice - once in the middle of the week, once a day before we leave). But if we have to use cloth at night anyway because he leaks through the sposies, then there's no reason not to use cloth full time - either way I have to do the laundry!

I have no qualms about using sposies on vacation though; I view them like I do plastic/paper dinnerware. While at home use the reusable stuff, while out use the disposable stuff.
