I am trying to find out the timing in regards to the closing of a membership. My question(s) are:
1. Since we are out of state where do you close or do you do it via fax?
2. How long does it take from the time you commit to the closing?
3. Can you make a reservation prior to being a member and then change it once you are?
1) life is a little bit easier if you can fax via your home PC. You don't need to do anything "in person".
2) My recent resale time line:
11/3 - purchase offer made and accepted.
11/4 faxed signed contracts to The Timeshare Store (TTS)
11/5 overnight deposit to TTS / contract sent to Disney for ROFR
11/6 Deposit received by TTS
11/8 Received Buyer Escrow, Waiver Disclosure & Escrow Form Insert from Timeshare Closing Services. Requested forms faxed back.
11/13 Timeshare Closing Services(TCS) indicated all forms received
11/15 TTS informed us we passed ROFR
01/02/08 Received final documents
01/03/08 sent check to TCS (overnight)
01/04/08 check received at TCS
01/21/08 Received word that the contract closed from TTS.
01/25/08 - Received mailed copy of the deed.
02/01/08 - Expected date that Member Services is notified of sale - able to make reservations.
3) No- you cannot make
DVC reservations through Disney Vacation Club until you are a recognized member.
Plan on the resale process taking about 2 months. If yo are very lucky things will move faster. In my case the "delays" were a long time for Disney to process estoppal information (determine loan payoff) and an unavoidable delay in seller returning final paperwork. If your seller doesn't have a loan it could be faster.
Good luck with your decision and time line.
