Closing of Cypress Gardens

We put a deposit down for our wedding ceremony at Cypress Gardens a couple weeks ago.

Their main web site is down, from what I can tell. You get a busy signal 90% of the time you call them. When you do get in, all calls are routed to Guest Relations where it rings forever... I let it ring about 100 times before someone answered. I asked for the Wedding Coordinator (I was stupid) and I was sent to her voicemail.

I think Holly is trying to call too.

We only put $100 down, but we had planned on this place.

That's a darn shame. Cypress Gardens has been a Central Fla. institution for a long time. Long before WDW.

Such a beautiful with wonderful memories for us
when we visited in 2000 my then 5 1/2 yr old dd got to dress as a junior southern belle
they did her hair in a beauty parlor, light make up (lip gloss etc), and the beautiful gown with the hoop
she got to walk around the park for two hours like that
people made such a fuss over her
It was her favorite part of our vacation
I don't have the heart to tell my daughter

That's sad. I went there on my very first trip to Florida when I was 7, although I admit I haven't been there since. Another one of those places you thought would always be there.

I'm sure you will get your deposit back from them though. Why don't you e.mail them if you have no luck speaking to somebody direct. Good luck and I hope you find another alternative wedding venue soon.

This is one of my favorite places. DD who is 14 has been there 3 times and just loved the Southern Belle's. Christmas is so beautiful there. Their Christmas light display was wonderful. I can't believe it's closing.

I just found out about this! We had such a nice time there some years back and I always meant to return. I guess that too many people never returned. This is such a shame.

Since this is Florida's first "theme park" and has such a long history, do you think the city or state will pick it up and maintain it as a park?

I pass that place to get to my stereo repair shop, which is like 1 minute away from there. I always wanted to go, but never had time. {{sigh}} Oh well.

I've been to Orlando four times now and it's one of those places that I've always meant to visit, but never quite got round to - and it's too late now.

WOW I'm in total shock over this news!

We just returned from Florida and I hadn't heard a thing about this at all down there........the Christmas season won't be the same in Florida as this was THE place to be during Christmas, with all the lights.

There has always been a trip to Cypress Gardens every year that we spent in the area at Christmas.............so sad.

The Chamber of Commerce is trying to save the original 100 acres or so of the original gardens for a public park. If you are interested in adding your name to the list of people who want to save the gardens, use the link above.

I hope that the gardens are saved somehow! And we WILL visit if they are. I think that I've learned my lesson.
