I have to be at SSR by 9AM, but will be staying elsewhere onsite the night before. Does anyone know the closest Disney resort to SSR and how I would go about getting there without a car?

The closest resort is OKW, but it is on the opposite side of DTD, so it is not within walking distance. You would have to walk all the way through DTD, but the water taxis don't start running until 11:00 am.

Buses at DTD don't start running until 9:00 am, so that won't help you very much.

POR and POFQ are at the other end of the river, but the boats don't run until 11:00 am either.

You have two options, either taking a parks bus from whatever resort you are staying to a park; take the first park bus you see show up and transfer to the SSR bus at the park; allow at least ninety minutes.

Or take a taxi.

Thank you for the quick response. I'm probably going to need to suck it up and pay the high price to stay at SSR in a studio just for convenience reasons.

OKW would also be a villa resort, so you wouldn't save much by staying there in a studio.

I think POR is the next closest. If that's what you'd rather do, send your luggage to SSR via Bell Services and go to a park for awhile, then go to SSR to check in.

Either of the Port Orleans Resorts will be very close and much more economical than paying cash for an SSR studio. As TDC Nala suggests, you can have your luggage transferred between resorts for free. We have done that a few times when we did split stays. Also, a cab will be under $10 from either POR or POFQ to SSR, we have done that a few times and its easy and cheap and much quicker than doing the bus or boat route back and forth to get between the two.

If you are staying on points and a DVC member, I belive you get 25% off rack rates if you need to add a cash night to a DVC reservation. If you are renting points from a member who does nto have enough points for all your nights, you might try to find another member to rent you enough points for that one extra night. SSR is one of the easiest resorts to get into on points so as long as someone is okay with a low point reservation (and many are since they have just a few leftover points they'd like to rent) you could do that.

You definitely have some options of staying in the area cheaper or staying at SSR for lower than rack rate.

Good luck with making it all work for you!

Thank you for the advice. :) I went ahead and booked a studio at SSR using my AP discount. The next morning I plan to check into a 1 bedroom using my DVC points.

I have to check into SSR early so I can use the DDP that I paid for through the DVC. I paid more than it would cost for a cab, but now Disney doesn't need move my luggage- I will just store it until my 1-bedroom is ready. It all worked out. :)

Have a great day!

Yippee!

Even though I am a split stay expert having done it so many times, there is really something to be said for staying at the same resort. When you check in ask if you can get an upgrade to a one bedroom so you don't have to change rooms, you never know! We were able to do that once when I had booked a studio for a night before our one bedroom for ten nights. My studio was on points but they did check and went ahead and gave me the one bedroom since they had one available.

I figured you either wanted to get those DDP credits for a breakfast or maybe had a spa appointment.

Enjoy SSR, its one of our favorites.:goodvibes
