Closest hotel to Universal

How about just getting a one day park hopper for WDW (that's what we got this trip). My kids are teens and we've been to WDW multiple times over the years. There are a few rides they like and want to do so with the one day hopper we just get there early, hit DHS for Toy Story Mania, RNR and Tower of Terror. We then hop over to AK for Dinosaur, Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids. From there its over to Epcot for Test Track and then to MK where we finish out the day and stay for the fireworks. While its a long and busy day we have fun doing it.

I never thought about park hoppers, however you really read my mind....we would do pretty much the same rides....but we would add Mission Space. I am getting close to a plan. If someone wants to critque please do. First off all we are looking at a budget vacation for 3 as myself and my wife returned from the Dominican just 2 weeks ago. But we promised our one and only child we would go to Florida again this fall. Heres the unbooked plan at the moment.

Arrive using airmile points on Oct 2 or 3rd, returning either the 10th or 11th. We have to pay flight taxes but still it only the equivilent of one person flying from Newfoundland. We are going to stay offsite and take advantage of the buy 4 get 3 free deal at US just because it is off season and because of the $700 savings from onsite. We are getting the US 7 day passes and the Seaworld 2 day pass. I am seriously looking at a 1 day Disney with park hopper. All in all this would come in around $2500 Can. Neither of us has done Seaworld so that will be new to us, we will have fun at US with some new rides there since our last visit, and we will still do the fun rides we like at Disney. Plus the extra day or 2 will give us some time to check out a mall or other shops. What else is there to fun beside the theme parks? I remember seeing this thing on I Drive that looks like 2 large crane arms with a slingshot in the middle of it that you sit it I guess. Anyone know what I am talking about?

Its much easier to plan a trip to an all inclusive resort because the hardest decision you have to make is who gets the next round...:thumbsup2

So I have it narrowed down to 2 offsite hotels. I am looking at Hyatt Place Universal and Fairfield Inn and Suites on I Drive. Fairfield Inn is rated number 3 of all hotels in Orlando. Another person also gave a great review for the Hyatt earlier in this thread.....any opinions anyone?

If I had to choose it would be the Hyatt cause its alot closer than Fairfield :thumbsup2

The other thing I liked about The Hyatt Place was that I booked a rate of $129 per night in January for our April 1st trip. I would check periodically like I was going to book a room and one time in March it came up $99 per night so I called the 1-800# and asked if they could either cancel my room and book it at the $99 or just change my rate. They just changed the rate to $99 per night so keep an eye on the rate to see if it changes before you go.

Also, I loved the Starbucks coffee they served.

Using the special buy 4 get 3 free through US website I can get the Hyatt for 7 nights all taxes and fees for $578 for my days in October...so its a great rate. The Fairfield can be booked for $450. I am thinking Hyatt though.
