We would like to do some shopping after we have arrived at Wilderness Lodge. What are the closest stores, preferrably open 24h as we arrive around 7PM and then have dinner first. Don't want to hurry.

Publix, CVS, Walmart, Winn-Dixie, whatever would be closest?

Goodings is the closest but they have the highest prices in the area.
The best place is probably a Publix over near 192.
Publix Orange Lake Town Center (Store #00551)
14928 E Orange Lake Blvd
Kissimmee, FL 34747-8210
Main: (407) 239-4989
Also, there is a Super Target right across 192 from Publix.

I don't know about the Orlando locations, but Publix near where I lived in Florida closed at 9 PM - I was so shocked (and irritated) when we first moved there because I was used to 24 hour grocery stores!

From WL we usually go to Winn-Dixie on Apopka Vineland Rd. To avoid lots of WDW traffic. If you turn left at light from WL, travel World Dr. to Vista Blvd., the road that takes you past FW entrance. Vista will lead you to a service area of WDW. Go to the last stoplight, then turn rt. on 535. This will lead you to Apopka-Vineland Rd. Turn left and Winn Dixie will be on your rt., about 2 blocks. Maybe 10 mins tops.

Here is store info.

Hope this helps. If you mapquest, it will probably take you through WDW, but former Ranger Stan told us this way, and it is a lot less traffic, so quicker by default.

Hope this helps.

Never been to a Winn Dixie, what are your thoughts about it? I know just where it is, but we have always just gone to Walmart. I think you have Food Lions in NC, but I am not sure, if you do is it like a Food Lion or a little more upscale? How are their prices? I signed up for their savings card a couple of years ago, but we have never used it.

Yes, WD and FL would be very similar. The particular WD that I mention is a bit more upscale as far as deli and produce. It is never crowded, which we like, can checkout quickly. A few restaurants nearby, Walgreens across street. A stoplight nearby to turn left. IMO, it is the closest "normal" grocery store nearest WDW. Normal meaning groceries only, not fancy, just essentials. They do have a souvenir area if you are looking for less expensive than parks gifts, other than that, normal;)

Thanks! Winn-Dixie on South Apopka looks good, last time we had breakfast nearby at Dennys or IHOP over there.

Google Maps actually gives me the same driving instructions as you did.
