Closest Free Internet around WDW?

I also wanted to chime in to say we have one of those wireless access cards that uses the 3G network to connect. I have been all over WDW resorts and cannot get any signal, even though my phone has 3G right next to the laptop.

I use my wireless card constantly for work, so I'm sure it wasn't just a laptop error.

I started to believe it was a conspiracy to make you pay for $10/day internet!!!

Anyone else been able to get the wireless access cards to work? If so, where?

Many people at Fort Wilderness use their wireless laptop card without issue. Some have mentioned it being a little slow sometimes. And there's a few campers that go for a month or more at a time.

Disney uses nextels all across property. So there's towers all over the place for them. I have AT&T, but just use my phone's web browser.

I have used wireless broadband access cards AND tethered smartphone handsets to connect laptops while at Pop, Wilderness Lodge and Caribbean Beach. No issues. Sometimes you might need to fiddle with the location inside the room for the most bars... but it works. Verizon 3G.

When we stayed at the Beach Club last year (June 2009) I was able to sit in the lobby with my laptop and check my email, etc. This year (August 2010), DH and I went to Beaches and Cream and then I tried to use the WiFi in the Beach Club lobby to check my Facebook on my iTouch and I could NOT connect. It seems like they "fixed" that. I know last year there were several people with computers in the lobby. They must not have liked that and went to charging for the access??? After I couldn't connect on my iTouch, I looked around and didn't see people on their computers in the lobby.

Who is your carrier with the wireless access card?

Reason I ask is that WDW property is so huge, your carrier's tower presence may be limited (or none at all).

A year or so ago, Sprint/Nextel was still the official wireless carrier on WDW -- however, I now understand Disney has some new business arragnements with Verizon Wireless meaning that VZW may actually have an on-property presence.

That said, any of those two carriers may work well, but if you're with AT&T or T-Mobile (or any "virtual" carrier using their networks), forget about it.
