A friend just sent me this exercise in a note. It's called "CLOSEST BOOK"

Rules:
* Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post that sentence along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

"In short, there are virtually no barriers preventing any airline from employing standard analytical approaches, and an airline would have to work very hard to distinguish itself in analytical competition at this point."

(ugh - I'm at work....... my closest book was pretty dreary...).

:p

Okay the closest book was a Skippyjon Jones book of my son's, and it doesn't have 56 pages. :laughing: Next closest book:

"They charged up the gangway, shouting incoherent challenges as another dozen men rushed from the Kra's pilothouse. "

It's a Clive Cussler book, in case ya were wondering. :rolleyes1

All the grownups, including Nanny, and all the children, even when the youngest was only a year old, sat down around the big oval dining-room talbe on the afternoon of our arrival.--Roald Dahl, "Boy"

"Many myths tell about brave heroes, great battles, terrible monsters, or gods and goddesses." -

What Your Second Grader Needs to Know edited by E.D. Hirsch, Jr.

"Typically these are rural locations where there may be widely spaced decision points, sparse lane use, smooth alignment, and light traffic."

"This box gives us IP addresses, default gateways, and subnet masks of the ATMs."

The only book I have here at work is the training manual for a job I don't do, but which is part of the requisite training for my actual job. Pretty thrilling stuff. :laughing:

Wow, OK you have me beat. Think I'll take mine home to help me sleep tonight......

The charges against reputable phsicians put the city's Regulars in an uncomfortable position since regular doctors had led the campaign to criminalize abortion and regarded themselves as superior, medically and morally, to other practitioners.

A book about the criminalization of abortion.

How about this:

The marketer cannot assume that Engel's conclusions apply without checking carefully.

"Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire was a different kind of book."

- The Science of Vampires by Katherine Ramsland

"I hated that I felt suddenly unsure about this".

DD14 is here reading it in her hospital bed, but YEAH!!! We're pretty sure she's getting discharged today after a 17 day stay.

Cut out windows. - We Care, A Preschool Curriculum for children 2-5.

"Caitlin had last seen this model half-dressed in a magazine ad for a South Beach linterie boutique, but Rafael had made her look like a Girl Scout troop leader from the suburbs."

OP, you thought yours was boring...:lmao: ;) ...
"The Comparison Reports menu allows you to select from three different reports that compare data at two or three different points in time."

(I'm at work too by the way, so I had no "good" books to choose from)
Fun thread!! :thumbsup2

"Rhodes was not alone in favouring his library over any other room in Groote Schuur: General Smuts, scholar and philosopher, was at his happiest when working or reading here."

Groote Schuur - Great Granary to Stately Home

I use this book as a "lap pad" for my laptop when I'm in bed. It's a "coffee table" photographic journey through the house in Cape Town, South Africa that was built by Sir Cecil Rhodes and had been the official residence of the South African President until Nelson Mandela became president and decided that he didn't want to live in it (I understand that he was a bit worried about all of it's precious contents because he had his small grandchildren living with him). My husband and I were lucky enough to attend a private event/party in this house when we visited South Africa about 8 years ago - OMG a wonderful and amazing evening!
