I know they dont close parks during thunder storms but what about water parks thank you in adcanced

We've been at BB during rainand can still ride the slides and play in the wave pool, but they close rides during storms if lightning has been sighted within ? # of miles. I can't remember how far away. It clears out the parks and by the time we finish a snack the whole place is practically to ourselves!

We do not close the water parks during rain.

However, if there is any electrical storm activity within five miles of the park we close all the pools and slides and clear the beach areas. Stores and food service are still open. We will remain closed until the storm is at least five miles away and definitely moving away.

Do you have any idea how much paperwork is involved if a Guest gets struck by lightening?

So then if we go to BB and it gets really bad the worse case scenerio would be to hang out in a shop and we will be let back in?

We were at TL on Tuesday when a VERY LARGE thunderstorm approached. They not only closed the park, but, after it started raining, hailing and the wind started blowing, they shut down the buses as well. We stood at the stop for about 40 minutes until the buses started moving again. There were enough people to keep me protected anyway.

I don't know about other times, but, this time they closed the whole park.

very intresting since they closed the park did they refund you?

It's very rare that Disney refunds money due to rain and storms. In Florida the would be refunding money every day during the summer.

We were at TL last summer when a huge storm was nearby. They closed the waterpark until further notice. I don't think they were forcing people to leave but to seek shelter. The storm did pass and the park was reopened. We left though because it was time to get ready for our dinner reservations. I think many people left that day...so if you want an empty water park go right after a storm!

The park closed at 5 and it was already 4. They have a sign up that says that if the park closes before you have been in more than an hour, they will give you a rain check or something. I am stretching my feeble memory for that one.

Disney will do everything they can to keep parks open and rides operating during rain, but if it becomes a safety issue and they close the park / ride, you're not likely to get a refund. Contrary to popular belief, Disney does not control the weather. :upsidedow

The water parks have a Rain Check policy.

If you have been in the park for less than three hours at the time of closing and we close due to weather and have been or expect to be closed for at least a half hour Rain Checks can be issued. They will be issued at all open ticket or Guest Services windows.

It will only be for one day water park tickets; we will not issue rain checks for any multi-entry tickets. The tickets must be turned in when the Rain Checks are issued and we will verify the actual entry time in the system. If a person is turning in more than one ticket all members of the group must be present at the window.

The Rain Checks are good for one entry to either waterpark and are valid until used. We will not issue a Rain Check if the ticket you used to get in the park was another Rain Check.

And even if you have been in line and just gotten to the window and we reopen we will not issue any Rain Check you can then reenter the park; the park must be closed to issue any.

Thanks for that information. I can't wait to get to the waterparks...

2 weeks and 2 days!!!

I think the policy is if the storm happens when it is close to the parks scheduled closing and the storm probably won't be over or far enough off property before the scheduled closing they can close the park early.

Cheshire Figment is a CM who is a fabulous resource for the DIS boards. CF knows everything about ticketing.

I thought the line about the required paperwork when a guest is struck by lightning was hilarious.

We??? So,,,there is a group of you that own the park?[/QUOTE

As for the "WE" that you are making fun of; whenever you have a job and work for someone you become part of the "we" for that company be it a school, a business, or a church etc. .

I am sitting here watching the news and watching it rain. 2 things to say

1. The news reported the waterparks were still open today. As hard as it has been raining I cannot imagine being in the park-even if I am already wet. It has got to hurt being hit by the drops when they are coming down so intensely. LOL Maybe if I was younger it might even add to the fun. LOL Thinking it has to be more miserable for the CMs who are standing in the rain than it is for the people having fun on the slides. Can't wait to hear my son's take on the rainy days this week. LOL

2. They announced that Disney raised the price for the waterparks. I thinkit was $45 for adult ticket. Not sure on the 3-9 ticket-maybe $35?

Cheshire Figment actually works in the water parks, so when he says "we", he means "here at the water parks, we ..." He's speaking as someone who works there, not as just a regular guest.

PS. This just in: Please be advised that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is closed for the remainder of the day, May 19, due to inclement weather. Please check advisories for any additional updates. Nothing on BB, but I assume that one's coming.
