Hey I resemble that comment
bunny_slippers.jpg
and I like the PJ party idea:rotfl:

Oh...my gosh! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: PJ parties at the DSAs... too cute! Yet so true! I got my mom some nice slippers off the disney shopping site for our last trip... as well as some stylish Disney PJs. Nothing like smoking in style :cool2: Thanks to the FDDP though, we can just spend our "food money" on fancy drinks! So if your walking by a woman sitting out there in Thumper PJ set, with a Martini in one hand and butt in the other... wave to mommy :wave2:

I decided to compare to DSAs to the Windows Live maps which was a big help in giving me the exact location of each DSA. As PPs have said... most are in fact uncovered. The maps are very deciving, and I discovered that the smoking area I thought was right outside the main building, was in fact closer to the pool bar area. Of course, I do understand how tough it is to create accurate resort maps.

Just a comment for those "single parents" out there. I was in fact a child of a single parent for most of our trips. As I said above, my mom is in fact a smoker and has been since I was a toddler. Keep in mind that as frustrating as the DSAs are in the resort (dragging your child with you)... you'll have to repeat the process constantly in the parks. There is, en essence, no way your child can "escape" the smoke :sad2:

Does anyone remember which building in POR had smoking? Want to make sure we are NOT put in that building!!
Thanks!!

I know bldgs 18 & 38 were former smoking bldgs. However, as I just said previously, we were in a former smoking room and there was absolutely, positively no scent of smoke whatsoever!!!

I was totally afraid of smelling smoke but I never did....

So do not worry!

Thanks..Just what I wanted to know. You stayed at POR in an old smoking room? People from other resorts said that they could still smell the smell. That's why I'm worried.:confused3

Remember, nobody was required to smoke even in smoking rooms. It's entirely possible that a given smoking-optional room had not been smoked in, in long enough for the smell to disappear, or that the room had been cleaned well enough that any odor is long gone...

I can tell you for sure - - our room was not smoked in for the six weeks we stayed there and it had been deep cleaned before we arrived. We did have guests that mentioned they could still smell a faint odor of smoke in the room. I am sure it does linger for a small amount of time.

I really think if we all give this a chance it should work out just fine. As long as Disney doesn't ban smokers all together - which I'm sure they won't - we can all work to make this policy work for everyone!!

Just got back from 10 nights at AS music. Nothing was said at check in regarding the new policy so I asked where the DSAs were. Kinda a drag but only in the morning when Mom & I were used to just stepping outside the room, but we abided by the rule 100%. We did however see a good handfull of people not abiding by the rule, but it maybe because they didnt ask and like I said before, nothing was said to us at check-in. If you went to Concierge desk and got an itinerary prinetd out w/meal ressies, there was a statement on the back about no smoking at the resort except for designated areas.
We saw 3 diff people just step outside their door to smoke. Saw @ a dozen people smoking while they walked towards main building (passing the DSA mind you) The resort still had trash cans by elevators that had ashtrays in them, that is VERY DECIEVING! There were always a butt or 2 in them every day and they are not right by a DSA either. Why do they have those trash cans still there?
We did the dining plan this yr so we went to several other resorts for meals and were very surprised (almost annoyed but not really so) to see the difference in smoking areas at diff resorts. Seemed some of the nicer resorts had bunches of them.:confused3
Oh well, no biggie really, just wish it was made more clear at check-in. Its quite possible that the rule breakers I saw were totally unaware of new policy. Cuz it just makes all smoker look bad when a small percentage break the rules. Guilt by association.

Okay, the trash cans are probably still there because as you noticed, people WILL still smoke wherever they please (until Disney starts emphasizing/enforcing the smoking rules) and at least this way, people - ideally - aren't using the ground as an ashtray.

As for the number of smoking areas at each resort? Don't feel badly - Contemporary only has three; I think so does Wilderness Lodge; Animal Kingdom only has three or four. If you go back through this thread, I think I posted the counts at each resort, based on the great maps Canadian Guy and Trekker linked.

I noticed 3 areas on the Contemporary map but in actuality there were several ares near the front main entrance and around the corner, so I guess it just felt like more sq footage (lol)

Hi all. Is there a no smoking policy in Florida like there is in California or is this WDW policy?

Hi Eeyoresnr. Thanks for the reply.

Tim

Other DSA locations were on 2nd and 3rd floors of some buildings, though I think it was the buildings without much land around them.

:)

Do you know the names of the buildings that have these? It might be nicer for DH than hiking outside . . . Thanks so much!!!!

my Dh mom is a smoker and was with us at the GF last week she could smoke on the back side of the main building I dont smoke but they seemed very spread out
I saw people smoking on their balconies at sugar loaf one night the nest day they were at the desk arguing saying they werent

Not off the top of my head, but they were the ones closest to the luau grounds, I think.

And they're outside. A hike is still involved, though an elevator might not be :)

When I booked our upcoming September trip in May I did not know that resorts would be non-smoking in June. I didn't book a preferred view room 'cause I didn't want to spend the extra $, I did, however, request a smoking room. I checked WDW site weekly and my reservations did not note a preferred room, but now they do. I'm wondering if this is so I can be closer to the DSAs as there seem to be several around the preferred building?

That could be. You should have been contacted by Disney, though, and advised of the new policy. They called us and gave us an option to be moved closer to a DSA, although at the time they didn’t have any information on the locations. We were already paying for a preferred room and were afraid of where they might try to move us.

We made our reservations months ago to stay at the GF in October and requested a smoking room. When Disney called to advise of the policy they offered to change our room to a location closer to a DSA, but the CM didn’t know where the DSA’s would be. We had paid extra for an MK view and requested the Conch Key lodge so we left the ressie like it was until we knew more. As it turned out, it was closer to a DSA than any of the other lodges so we were going to keep that request. Now I just found out that the GF is undergoing a rehab and the concierge in the Sugar Loaf lodge may be moved to Conch Key in October, meaning we couldn’t stay in Conch Key. I’m really trying to avoid Sago Key (have stayed there before, don’t want to go back). I’m thinking about changing our ressies to the main building to take advantage of the 3rd floor DSA in that building. Has anybody seen that DSA or have any info on it? We will be paying for 2 rooms for our group so the extra cost would be substantial, but the DSA’s for the other lodge buildings seem to be so inconvenient.

The Poly buildings with DSA's "connected" are:

Tuvalu: 3rd Floor
Fiji: 2nd Floor
Aotearo: 2nd Floor

As Mary2e said, these buildings are closest to the Luau Cove. :flower3: It would infact be extremely convienent if you were to be placed in one of those buildings. All 3 offer garden view rooms, 2 offer Lagoon view, and 1 offers MK view rooms.

Krbq:
I tried to find some pictures of this area, but had very little success. From exterior photos, it is a recessed balcony with tile flooring with tables and chairs. There are several large glass doors that open to 3rd floor foyer of the lobby. I hope your able to work something out!
