hey anyone back from POLY since the new smoking policy? is the DSA right outside entrance to GCH? what about pool areas are they in the pool areas or right b4 you enter the pool area. having trouble with the map.

I could not pull up the ds map either for any resort? Interested in Contempary's area too.

thanks, mky:wizard:

I have a map for the Poly, and there appears to be a DSA at each building, plus one by each pool, restaurant and the GCH.

but is the DSA in the area where the lounge chairs are or the area right outside of the pool area. if you come from the GCH to the VOlcano pool, is the DSA before the few stairs into the pool area or is it a section of the loungechairs? and i believe the longhouses have a entrance on each end. is the dsa on each end or only one?

I had noticed on the map of AS Music that there were only 3 or 4 DSAs. Has anyone been there and made note if there were more than just those?

Nope, there are only 3. The one by the main building and the one in the center of the complex has a bench (no cover). The one in the back just has a can with no cover and no bench. The one in the back is next to a picnic area with benches, but the area is inside a fence and the can is outside the fence. I took that as a hint.

I will be checking into POR this coming Friday evening. My original reservation had nonsmoking standard room requested. I just faxed a request to the room assigner today stating a couple of things about our party and the request for a nonsmoking former room also. I stated why we wanted the request and now we are hoping for the best.

I will report here what I am assigned and about the DSAs. As you can probably tell, I am a nonsmoker so for all of you other nonsmokers, I will be able to tell if we had a former smoking room and the condition. I'm hoping not but we will also be well aware of all our surroundings should we happen by these DSAs.

This thread is a good thing! :thumbsup2 I love the noncontroversy!!!

It's always good to put in a request, but it shouldnt be an issue. Their are only a couple of former smoking buildings. I know on the mansion side it was Oak Manor.

I think it's ridiculous to have only 3 areas in such a big resort!!!! :sad2:

Hmmm...may be another reason for us to NOT book Values in the future!! :woohoo:

It looks like the DSA is near the stairs away from the lounge chairs.

Each building has a DSA at one end only.

We have ressies for POP in July and as a heavy smoker I have had much concern about the DSA's there. We have requested "pool view, close to DSA, 50's building". After reading jrb967's post, I wonder if this is what they requested to get such good rooms? Anybody have any suggestions??? Thanks :)

If you look at the Pop map in the link on this thread, there appears to be a DSA midway between buildings one and three, on the pool ‘side’ of the buildings but on the far side of the elevators from the pool – closer to Classic Hall. Make sense? Plus, at least in building one, that wing is Preferred.

WDWCrazy07 - I booked a preferred room at the POP, but didn't request any special room or bldg in advance. At checkin, I asked about a ground floor room, more for my DS than for DH - DS is autistic and afraid of heights so we try to get ground whenever possible. CM siad that is what we had already so it worked out well.

We were in the 3000 Bldg of the 50 sections, facing inward towards the 1000 bldg but closer to the Classic Hall than the Bowling Pin pool. Actually about midway between the bowling pin and Tramp. If I remember correctly, there is a small bldg right there off the main path, I think for pool stuff. The DSA is on the side closer to the Classic hall. After you pass the small bldg, the pool area starts. We didn't really have a view of the pool from our room but it was just a few yards away.

I really think anything in the 3000 or 1000 bldg that faces inward toward the pool is going to be convenient to that location, especially if you can get ground floor.

I think the map of the POP makes things seem farther away then they really are. We found everything at the resort to be a very conveniently located, much more so than the moderate where our friends stayed (CSR).

jrb967: Thanks for the info and I know the exact area you mean (we usually stay in the 1st building at POP). We have 6 rooms booked and I am hoping we can get in that general area and all fairly close to one another.

I have the same questions as dave2003. I saw the map but it was hard to tell if the DSA at the Volcano Pool is in the pool area or right outside of it. Have you been to the Polynesian since the new policy went in to effect or are you looking at the map? I'm really curious about this since we will be heading to the Polynesian in August. Thanks!

You can zoom in on the maps using the Acrobat software. Here's a close-up of the Volcano pool area. It appears to me that the south end of the pool (in this picture) is where the smoking area is.

You must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed for you to view the maps. You can get this at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Not to sure if this is allowed or not and I have removed names to protect the people passing along the info. I recieved this on a DVC forum I frequent.

She was in the smoking section and was told by 2 other seperate guests that they were "caught" by survellince cameras ON THEIR BALCONYS and their rooms were charged $269 (including tax! what???? ) for smoking in a non-smoking area. The guests went to check their room charges and found it tacked on- I understand that one guest was given a $100 "credit" as he booked his trip prior to the non-smoking policy being enforced.

That seems like that would favor the guests who stay in hotels with more private balconies. I don't know much about many of the balconies, but it would be pretty hard to take photos of anyone sitting on one of the CR's tower balconies.

I'll be checking in to the Yacht Club tomorrow evening. I went ahead and called the resort directly today to make sure they had my room request...1st floor near a DSA. Of course, the CM said they couldn't guarantee it, but they did have it noted on my reservation. Keep your fingers crossed for us! I'll report my experiences when we return (not until July 1st).

Does anyone know where the smoking area will be at The Beach Club? We will be arriving in Sept and booked a smoking room, but now we wont be smoking in the room. I was wondering where the designated area is.

There is a sticky at the top of this resort forum with maps of the designated smoking areas at each resort.

I'm going next week.

I'll post from there with specifics.
