I have to go back to page 42 to catch up. You folks have been busy chatting today!!!
But wanted to type first. I just dont have anyone else I am ready to share this with you all of you are so supportive. Im not sure which way is up. Today has been a bit of a rough day.
The adoption event had it's cons, but thats minor. When I got home DH told me my Mom called and I should call her back. My Mom is a jabber-mouth- for her to call and just ask to be called back is unheard of, so I looked and DH and said 'Tell me whats going on" he said "just call her" me- "Not until you tell me at least something" Long story short I called.
My Dad, as some of you may recall has been fighting prostate cancer for the past 7 years. He has been complaining of back pain for the last 2 months, felt it was the cause of a skiing accident early this season. He was told last week he had a compression fracture- well I guess the fracture- they are calling them "breaks" now and there are at least 4. In the process of getting info on this they realized this is being caused by one of 3 things. They are most leaning towards his cancer matastisizing and a tumor has put pressure on his spine and caused the fractures. The alternative is lymphoma or lukemia. So he should hopefully know tomorrow if he is looking at surgery and radiation (in addition to the hormone treatments he hates) or treating the lukemia/lymphoma by some other means- Im not sure.
He's in a lot of pain right now and my Mom says he's not talking much. The meds he's on make him spacey, or the pain keeps him from talking.
I know the hormone treatments have left him incontinent and give him severe shakes, and fatigue and such.

I know we are sewing board. Im just so upset right now and knew you all would understand.

I just want you to know I'll be praying!

I think I'm gonna start another - maybe for Easter. I'm going tomorrow to get Wall-E fabric for my big give outfit, so I'm hoping to get that done.

Beautiful!

The diaper bag looks cute and so does Megan's shirt, even though she is pouting. :thumbsup2

That is so cute. That was candicenicole that posted a dress like that one.

Nicole I am so sorry to hear that your dad isn't feeling well. Hopefully, he will get better real soon and get some relief from the pain.

So if you have followed my posts, you will know that I have VERY limited knowledge of sewing and my last attempt was a long time ago and had tragic and scarring results.

I finally bought a sewing machine, got it set up and began to make, what I thought would be an easy project. Shorts.

Well, I managed to not sew the legs together so it looked like a skirt gone horribly wrong.

There was not one single stitch that was straight, it looked like I had been sewing while intoxicated.

I finally did manage to get the legs sewn together and the crotch seam done (still drunk sewing looking)

One pant leg was wider than the other

The hem on each pant leg was pitiful
One pant leg was longer than the other even though I measured it 4 times.

It was none the less, sad and kinda scary but I will trudge on..

I would post a picture but as Halloween has past, I do not want to scare you all unnecessarily.

I am off to practice some more....
You must post pics. We all have shown our goofs.

I just want you to know I'll be praying!

i'd like a pic too, i am sure it is not as bad as you think we are all our worst critics

Here is the outfit for Hayden (Tiny Treasures Big Give) that I made this afternoon. He loves orange and the cars material was all I could find that coordinated with the shirt!

Just the Easy Fit pants with the orange shirt. Simple rectangular applique on the shirt.
really cute, i m sure he'll love it

I finally have some pictures of the outfits I have been working on for the last week. We are headed to WDW in March. I only got my model to put on one of the dresses for me. Here goes:

The first one I made is for a day at Epcot:

And here she is twirling for me.

The next three are for days at MK.

I still have to make a t-shirt to match the skirt. Of course she wants a dress like the others with tinkerbell but I ran out of fabric and couldn't find any more of the purple. I have a couple more things to make for her and then a bunch of mickey head shirts and possibly some shorts for the boys.

here is clints big give shirt.

So cute! He will love that!

I can't agree more about CarlaC's patterns. I use them all the time!
I don't think I have picked up a commercial pattern in a couple of years now, except for the Farbenmix ones.
Speaking of Carla's patterns. I just finished this Simply Sweet dress for our trip. Four down, a couple of more to go!
I also used the quilting block tutorial on YCMT's blog to add the hem detail.
th_Disneyoutfits2009002-2.jpg

No model today, she is too busy playing with her Mickey Mouse Clubhouse stuff to give me any free time!:rotfl:
Beautiful!

I made a Simply Sweet today too. A Minnie dress for an American Girl Doll but I missed the part about cutting out 2 skirt pieces so mine is pretty straight. It does go on the doll but I made it as a gift so I hope I have time to make another one before my trip.

Sigh! I wish I was working on a Simply Sweet dress today! I have been working on a mccalls pattern for a diaper bag and it has been the pattern from H-E double hockey sticks for sure! I even went to Joanns in desperation and the cutting table ladies could not help me. I called my mom twice to whine about it and I almost cried when I sewed the lining in inside out! But it's done! It is not perfect and I am a little stressed out about that because it's for a friend's daughter.

th_IMG_1069.jpg
th_IMG_1071.jpg

Then when I finally finished today I wanted to do something fun. I get so irritated that they don't have any cute girly sports team stuff so I took a 2xl t-shirt and cut it down to make a little dress. I think next time I will put elastic in th sleeves to be even girlier. Megan was excited about it until DH made her put on a long sleeved shirt underneath because they are going to out to watch the Steelers game.

th_IMG_1068.jpg
The diaper bag looks great! I'm sure they will love it! Your dress is very cute!

Here is Lily's Pooh dress I made a few days ago. I'm not so sure I love the pants. They need a pink ruffle to coordinate with the top/dress. Maybe it will be sooooo warm in Florida she will need shorts under instead. :thumbsup2 I CASEd this a bit from something I saw on here 100 years ago. And yes, she does have a big scratch under her right eye. She was lying on my bedroom floor yesterday when Luke tripped on her head :confused3

:grouphug: So sorry!

I am suppose to be making a 6mo size dress for littlest Granddaughter. They got an extra special last minute trip to Disneyland. No little outfits for her yet!! So, they are relaxing right now at the Tinkerbell pool and I am at home sewing (uh, on Dis boards!) and will be leaving in about an hour for an evening at Disneyland!
Have fun!!!

:grouphug: I hope you get some good news. Don't ever be afraid to post non-sewing real life stuff on here, we're here for you. And I have found, more often than not, someone has been through it or has experience with it and can offer great advice!

This is useless without pictures! I can understand why you don't want to show any though. When I scrapbooked, we used to post our very first pages for a laugh, we should do that with our sewing projects.

Anyway, the drunken seams will get better with practice, I promise. Don't give up!

Steph, the bag turned out great!! It looks really cute!

And, is Megan crying? Did that big bad meany make sweet Megan cry???
The dress is so cute!! what a clever idea!

1) Thank you! I am soooo nervous about it. I wish I would have left off the top with the zipper. It just looks so odd.

2) Actually, she is trying not to laugh, but she was crying. She was not cold and did NOT want to put on a long sleeved shirt even though we were going out! She almost got left behind for that temper tantrum.

I love that Cars fabric. If he likes orange as much as his sister like pink (which seems like the case), it's going to be sooo loved!

That is so pretty; I love the ric rac around the heart!

So pretty! My favorites are the Nemo, love the orange polka dots with it, and Tink. Hopefully you can make something acceptable for the princess with a t-shirt. Been there, done that: good luck!

Great job...love the fabric choices. Very pretty

Steph- I apparently lost my quote of your diaper bag and the TB dress. Sorry the diaper bag gave you problems but it came out great. Love the TB dress. Where were you when I was trying to find "girly" Celtics attire this week???

I had a nightmare of a time sewing today. Clearly my brain wasn't in it. Thank God for my seam ripper because I used it over and over and over. I was supposed to make Valentines Day and St. Paddy's Day...I stopped after Valentine's Day. St. Paddy is going to have to wait until tomorrow. I knew I was done for when I completely sewed the neck hole shut and Aisling said "Mommy how am I supposed to wear that?" :rotfl2:

Hi all! :wave2: Just dropping in real quick to say hi and WOW at all the beautiful stuff you guys have been working on.

I have spent my weekend like so many of us have been lately...nursing a sick little one.

Patrick had a fever up to 103 last night...I had a time getting it down. It took several hours of cool wash cloths, baths, and motrin. He finally felt a little better by bed time. Am I the only one that has a hard time sleeping when they have a fever? I will get out of bed every 30 minutes to go feel how hot they are. I usually just let them sleep with me, but he would have nothing of it.

He is much better today thank goodness!

I haven't done much sewing because I'm helping Katie with hers. She is doing great!

Take care all! I'll check in more later in the week!:)

Thanks Shannon =)

Just wanted to say there have been a lot of really great things posted lately. I have been lurking since the holidays, life has just been so crazy. I love seeing what everyone is making.

Another Texan here. I know most of the towns posted from doing work in them. I'm not a native, but I consider myself a Texan now 100%. I've been here in the Houston area for 5 years now and have no intention of ever leaving. Texas suits me.

I remembered tonight why I really don't like comercial patterns. I was making a baby sleep sack from a comercial pattern. It had one picture for every 4 lines of instruction. It was driving me batty. I'm actually amazed I got it put together so quickly. I am working on V-day and Big Give right now. I love my new sewing machine. It is so quiet and the stitches are great.

So is it bad to use Chocolate Kisses as a reward for using the potty? My almost 3 year old is potty training and we started giving her a chocolate kiss as a reward for using the potty at home. Its working, but I'm not 100% sure it was a good idea.

Thank you! The t-shirt dress was so easy and took my about a half an hour. I can't wait to make another one. The diaper bag took a little longer. :lmao: Let's just say I made good friends with my seam ripper this afternoon too!

Aisling is so funny! At least she is looking out for you, trying to help! Megan helps me by picking up pins out of the carpet and making a running tally so I can feel guilty about it. Today she recorded 7 pins! That's 7 times someone could have stepped on them and hurt their feet, she told me. :faint:

I hope he keeps getting better! I can't sleep when they're sick, either. Try to get some rest.

Ok totally not clothing but I made some progress this weekend. I wanted to make a baby quilt for a couple at our church having their first. They are really young and have only been married for a year or so so they're still just starting out. I think they're 22 or so...anyway, I got to start it Friday, got it finished yesterday:
poohquilt1.jpg

Wow, you made this in one day! You are good! It is really cute, what a nice gift to receive. I started a quilt for my BF's first baby but only got the top done. He just turned 13 last week :sad2: Maybe I'll finish it when he has his first child!

I guess I forgot to hit the quote button! Oops...

I really like the princes stripwork. I love the fabrics. Too cute!!!

That diaper bag looks like it would have driven me to sewing maching murder.

I just want you to know I'll be praying!

I finally have some pictures of the outfits I have been working on for the last week. We are headed to WDW in March. I only got my model to put on one of the dresses for me. Here goes:

The first one I made is for a day at Epcot:
And here she is twirling for me.

I still have to make a t-shirt to match the skirt. Of course she wants a dress like the others with tinkerbell but I ran out of fabric and couldn't find any more of the purple. I have a couple more things to make for her and then a bunch of mickey head shirts and possibly some shorts for the boys.

Everything is so cute! But the Nemo is my favorite, I love this picture!

Here is Jayden's latest outfit. She LOVES all things Pooh bear, especially Tigger. The Tigger on the shirt was an ebay iron-on embroidered patch. The kind you can hardly find anymore.

Thanks to Denise/mytwotinks for the design inspiration on the skirt! :thumbsup2
Sorry if the photos don't resize. Photobucket is killing me tonight.

I've got lots of pages to go back & catch up on, but was so excited that I finished this dress this evening that I had to share! This is my 2nd dress, so I'm still getting the hang of things, but am pretty happy with how it turned out - here is Maddie's Valentine's Day dress:

I could have made it smaller, but this way it'll fit for a long time, I guess. ;) Since I'm new to all of this, all of the gathering took me longer than any other part of this dress. Does anyone have any tips for quick & easy gathering? Or will I just get better at it with time?

Off to catch up! :)
