This is my dress that I was working on yesterday out of sheet. Today I made a few adjustments and cut in fabric. It is now a bit too tight and it squishes what little there is. I plan to release the darts a bit and see if it helps. Other than that I can't do much else. I am going to adjust the paper pieces to put back an itsy bitsy into the bodice. Urg, it is giving me problems but is my first design.

I need to learn more about how dress go together so I do better next time. Thanks for the support!

I think it looks GREAT! Seriously!

I don't know anything about darts, sorry I can't help. I just wanted you to know that someone was reading... just don't know how to help you.

I haven't posted in a really long time but I still follow the thread. I just love all the wonderful things you guys make. My dd is getting older so it is harder to sew things for her, but I plan to make a few things for our trip. I found this cute tutorial and my keychain/wallet actually just broke so I made this one. What do you think? Here is the tutorial website.... http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=190408.0

Thanks for everyone's congrats! His name is Cameron Scott. He was 7 lbs, 10ozs and 19 inches long. I feel great, much better than I did a few days ago! Around half time during the Superbowl, I started to feel uncomfortable and called the midwife to say I was coming in. Got to the hospital around 9pm, was 5cm and he was born at 11:05. Things moved fast and furious! I added his photo to my sig, we'll see if it works. I have a terrible time with photobucket.

What a cutie! I'm glad it went fast for you and that everyone is safe and healthy! Congratulations!

Wow! Terrific job! I know nothing about darts. You're incredibly brave to try and make something for yourself. It really looks great!

We went to MK and met Tom and Angela and Leighanna!!!! Morgan and I went on a bunch of rides with them. The girls had so much fun together! I got some great pictures and (video LOL). I got to see Tom's Lady outfit in person-it is awesome!!!!!!!

Morgan calls Tom "Mr. T" and thinks he is wonderful! She wanted to ride all the rides with him and his family- she totally forgot about me

If it is ok with Tom I will share the pictures of his adorable daugther and Morgan.

How fun! I'm so jealous that you got to meet someone even though I'm really "chicken" to meet anyone in real life! I keep thinking, "What if they don't like me in real life?" . Although I think my personality comes across much better in real life than online.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome Cameron!!!! Woo Hoo!!:cool1:

MinnieVanMom - WOW - you are doing GREAT with that dress!!

Daniel now looks like a kiddo who has cancer - his hair is falling out alot and he asked his dad to shave his head for him.....hats seem to give him a headache right now so he hasnt been wearing them. They also got a call today that the job that his Dad was laid off from will no longer carry them on the insurance (the company is owned by Daniels mom's uncle - he didnt have the guts to call, had his secretary do it)....but they are waiting to hear from PA medicaid for Daniel,,,not sure what they are doing for themselves, but the other kids I think can get on CHIPS program...I told his dad he should get a job at the hospital...although I dont have kids, they offer free healthcare and prescriptions for the children of their employees!! His walking and balance are improving every time we see him - speech seemed a tiny bit better today! He is getting medication to keep his tummy calm, so he is hungry as a horse!! He hasnt been doing any school yet - he has been out of school since the beginning of Dec, so Im guessing he will have to repeat this year??? Really, until radiation is done, I dont see how he would squeeze school in - and his mind isnt totally clear for learning yet....any one have thought or experience with the educational part of a sick child's care????

Wendy, they can ask their school to put together a 504 plan for Daniel. This is a plan that makes exceptions (I am using the wrong word here for lack of a better one) and accomodations for students who are having a medical issue. What they can get through a 504 plan that would probably work for Daniel is a teacher that will come to their house or hospital. He won't be expected to do the same things the students are doing in the classroom, but they will cover some of the same material. So hopefully he will learn what he has to learn in order to progress with his classmates but he won't have all of the homework they do. Let me know if this makes sense or if you need any advice on this - I used to teach special ed. before my girls were born.

It looks good to me. Keep going!

GREAT IDEA!! Why didnt I think of that!! I know what a 504 is for sure! I just thought of it for kids who have learning disabilities, CP, etc - like the kids I see for therapy - but it makes so much sense for Daniel as well!! I will totally mention this to them!!!

What's a shame is that duPont used to have a school right in it - but with budget of school systems getting trimmed over the past 5 years or so, it kinda went out the door - school districts didnt want to pay to have their students taught, and Brandywine school district didnt want to pay for all the kids to be taught who were out of their school district!! It was nice for the famlies, cause it was kinda like one stop shopping - school, therapy, treatment - thanks so much for all your ideas everyone!! keep them coming!!

I love that too! Did you just buy that fabric? I have been searching for months now for some cute Mickey fabric! If you did can you PM to let me know where I might find it. This thread can fill up so fast sometimes that I miss when people reply to a question I had. Again, I think you did a great job on your project!

Thank you so much for sharing that info with me - that does make so much sense....it is very cold here right now, and i just feel so bad for him. His dad did try to shave it off with a buzzer, but Daniel wants him to take a razor to his head, but his dad is afraid he will cut his head! My DH was wondering if he should take his electric razor to them - that wouldnt cut it, right? but do you think it would sting? I have gone back and forth about the buket hat - because that could fit so loose, but right now, Im not sure I could do it through the tears - maybe I will wait to see if he asks for one? Not like I could turn him down, right??? I really appreciate you sharing your experiences with me - it helps sooo much....Thank you!

We used electric shears that a barber uses to make the initial buzzing. After that I used my electric razor to take care of the little bit of stubble that I had. That worked really well. It never pulled but I think it would if they don't buzz it down as short as possible. I would be learey of using a razor. There is just too much chance of nicking and with the chemo compromising his immune system I don't think it would be a good idea. Try and talk him into just buzzing it as short as possible and then let the chemo do the rest. You'll be suprised how quick the rest of it falls out. Your hair starts falling out 18 days after your first chemo treatment. I felt so much better after I finally got the courage to buzz it off. I went bald pretty much all of the time. I hated my wig and only wore it to church. I didn't think I looked good in hats and I felt like I got just as many stares wearing hats and scarfs as I did going bald. A fellow survivor in my Sunday School class told me that she thought being bald was impowering. I would have to agree with her. I would have never thought that until I went through it.

Wow! Georgia looks so big!

Why would your friend steal your iron - of all the things I would definitely give back, it's an iron!

Cute Birthday Girl stuff!

I made a bag!
Its the first nice, grown up bag I have made.....
I made my kids really simple totes, but this is the first time I have used interfacing and I used a pattern I got so many years ago that I can't remember. So, now I can say it was worth it :)

one.jpg
two.jpg

the bag!

three.jpg

Its reversible!

pattern.jpg

the pattern that has been in my sewing box for years.

handles.jpg

and the handles that weren't meant to be :(

So, the story with the handles... I wanted to make the second bag option, which is reversible. And I got these cute handles, but sewing them on proved to be a problem. They don't bend and with the lining and trying to sew it all together, right sides facing, with the handles in between and make the turns to go around the opening of the purse.... I was thinking of just doing it by hand (which is a bad idea for me) and then I decided to try a single strap.
I got the fabrics from the remnant basket at Joann a few weeks back and have been wanting to use them. I am not sure I would use it with the green side out but, who knows. I still need to do some top stitching and then I think its done.

I know its late for most, but I am all excited and had to share :)
In other news.... Kids watched Toy Story 2 for the first time this week. And my DS5 has been saying all day "Draw that man in a chicken suit!" At first I was soo confused... now it cracks me up :rotfl:

Do you talented ladies have room in your group for someone new? I'm a Disney Vacation buff (we live in WA and go at least twice a year), but just now venturing into the land of sewing/applique as I have a two year old and am going broke buying for her on ebay/etsy. :)

I have stayed up way, way too late reading a bajillion threads and looking at too many adorable things. But I had a question for you that I was hoping you'd be able to help me with. I've found some applique/embroidery designs on etsy that I want to purchase, but I'm looking to also purchase some of the common ones I see on so many designs on ebay - specifically, the mickey head sillhouette with a chef hat on, or a pirate's scarf, or a princess hat. Do you know which ones I mean? I'd post a link to some auctions but I think that's against the rules. :)

I have searched several different ways on ebay/etsy for them, and while I have found some, I haven't found the few I'm looking for. I know that Disney is pretty tight on regulating their brand, so I'm wondering if I'm searching for the wrong thing? Should I be searching for them using some secret non-Disney speak or something? ;)

Sincere thanks to anyone at all who can help me!! :)

I PM'd you but just to let others know it came from a bed sheet. :)

Welcome! We always have room for one more. If you see an ebay seller with a lot of disney designs, message them and ask if they have more. My favorite (I would post, but I think it is against the rules) has tons more than she has on ebay. She can send you a link to her photobucket site for you to browse.

Just needed to a wee bit of happy dance. Our trip is paid for. :):cheer2: :cheer2: Back to sewing!!!

Glad Daniel is making improvements. I would talk tot he parents about what you think of the OT you are his family and you ware only wanting the best . You have the added bonus of being a professional OT so you know what you are talking about.

Great idea!

Im a bit frustrated with my rag quilt - lol - after 2 washings, I noticed some, well alot, of spaces that needed repairing where I had nipped the threads!! UGH!! I think this took me as long as the quilt did - lol!!! Then, after thinking about it - I dont think I backstitched at all during the construction!!! What do you do at the intersections of the blocks???
I think a 504 plan is a great idea! From all i read even Nikki with her Celiac's SHOULD be able to get it but her principal and teacher are AWFUL! They told me she couldn't get it because she was a good student! I wasn't even asking for special homework unless it had unsafe things in it! Basically if she was doing lousy in school I could use the 504 plan as an excuse! So they have been unsafe with her she has gotten sick and rashes from their stupidity!!UGH! Sorry it is a sour subject for me! LOL

Now I think in Daniel's case it is 100% necessary and a great thing and I am actually shocked his school didn't suggest it! Let us know how it works out.

Sorry about the rag quilt I just washed mine twice and then gave it to the people! LOL

size 8-chest 27"
HUM now i need to go measure Nikki! She fits into a lot of Carla's size 8 stuff.

they can also look into Home schooling im and i bet he will be just fine with it!

Of course we do WELCOME! I am sorry I don't really have the applique answers for you i am just starting with it. I can tell you youcanmakethis.com has some really cute appliques i have bought. also google coloring pages i think some ladies use those.

Ok so I finished my first dress/jumper. I am not happy with it :sad2: the stitching is way too loose :guilty: So I guess I will have to make a couple more before I really like the way it looks. I did make the button holes on my machine (which is really weird, I have never done that before.) anyway I didn't add buttons on it b/c I hate it..
So here is a pic of an ugly dress.. :lmao:

Aww!!! They grow so fast. I have one of those miracle grow 6yr olds, too. I have noticed that this year she has changed from a little girl to a little lady. She doesn't look like a baby anymore :(

I love the fabrics, very bright.
