candielips,
I look at the UPS shipping time frames and then ship based on that.

So - for us - we are arriving this Saturday, so I shipped via UPS on Monday - so it should arrive on Thursday. Wisconsin to Florida SHOULD be 3 days but - there could be delays, so I planned an extra day.

UPS does not deliver on Saturday unless you pay extra (and ship 1 or 2 day air) and they do not count the day it was shipped. So for me, I shipped on Monday - 3 days should put it there Thursday (Tues, Weds, Thurs count as shipping days) - but to be safe I allowed one day for UPS "issues".

We arrive on Friday - so my hope is that our box is there.

Check UPS, FedEx web sites - or however you are shipping to determine delivery time and go from there. I would plan an extra day to be safe.... :)

Returned from our vacation August 6th. I wanted to give a quick update. We checked out of Yacht Club on August 27th, the concierge at Yacht Club was wonderful I asked her to check and make sure our request to be placed in the mansions at POR were documented on our new reservation. She checked and found out that the room was ready and she was able to give me the room number and keys for our room at POR. I had already done the online check in so that eased the process! Anyhow, later in the day when we stopped into POR to check into our room I asked if I had any packages and they went into the back and brought out three packages for me. ALl had arrived by USPS Priority mail and there was no charge for any of them. So apparently, at least with my most recent experience USPS packages are fine and no extra charge. Packages sent UPS or FED EX are now picked up at the convention center (AT LEAST if you stay at the Yacht Club) and they charge you per package. Hope this info is helpful to anyone else traveling to the WOrld and having packages sent

Checked into BLT on August 13. $15 charge for UPS package. But, they brought it to the room within 15 minutes of the call.

Given my airline only charged $15 per bag (online check in) - I should have saved the UPS fee and the BLT fee... would have been cheaper to check my box! Drat. :)

Thanks for the info on USPS!! This is exactly what I've been looking for, just for the Boardwalk! I'd assume it works quite similarly.

May I ask how long it took from when you sent your package to when it arrived at the Yacht Club?

My package was shipped from a merchandiser, two of them actually. I placed the order on 7/22, checked into YC on 7/25 and no mention was made of a package. However, when I started investigating the next day 7/26 and found out I had to go to the convention center both were there waiting for me and I think they had been there at least 1 or 2 days.

The items that were sent to POR by USPS priority were ordered 7/23 and they were all waiting for me at the front desk area when I checked in on 7/27 (no charge). HTH

Ok, so I'm kind of confused. I read in the first post that it is not advised to use USPS:

From the PO Box it is sorted into sections and then specific locations before it is delivered out to property. This can take quite a bit of time."

But then I'm reading alot of people use USPS and do quite well. Does USPS now recognize the Disney streets or something?

This may sound like a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway...
Do you just bring the suitcase to the UPS store as is or does it go in a box?:confused3 Also, does it go by weight or size? Sorry to ask so many question but this sounds like a GREAT idea. The thought of not having to take the suitcase to the airport is awesome.:thumbsup2
Thanks,
Laurie

How wonderful to live where Southwest flies!!!!

It's been asked before but I can't seem to find a concrete answer on this thread - how long will the resorts hold a package for you? Days? Weeks? I'd rather be safe than sorry for shipping (having to go through USPS) and want to make sure all is OK! How far in advance can I safely ship and have the resort hold the package? (We leave in 3 weeks).

I am also confused. Some say to do Fed Ex or USP, some say USPS is better for shipping. I understand that there is a fee for convention center resorts which Beach Club is note as one. So if you have it delivered USPS, you won't have a handling fee? I am planning to use Amazon Prime shipping for diapers, wipes, etc. and unfortunately will be shipped in separate boxes and with the fee (I believe $5/box) I want to make sure this is the most economical.

Has anyone used Amazon Prime 2-day shipping to be sent to any resort and had any problems. Our packages usually come USP but what if they will be sent via different method (Fed EX or USPS)? Issues?

:confused:Once and for all !!
Should I ship USPS PRIORITY, FED EX, UPS?
Will packages arrive front desk or convention center?
Can I ship back home packages from contempory hotel or do I have to drop off packages at post office, fed ex, or ups?

Sorry to sound so confused, maybe it's the MS. :headache:

I have only ever shipped to my resort once so far but plan to do it this year also. We went last year december 2010 stayed at BCV and shipped our box via usps exactly one week ahead priority mail. I did this as well as my parents and in laws, all our packages were waiting for us when we checked in.

as far as sending stuff home. do you mean purchases, we have done things a couple different ways in that regard. (a)we have shipped items directly from the store we purchased them at (b) we have sent merchandise to the resorts and then sent everything home from there.

Having a little bit of anxiety here. Shipped a box full of stuff via USPS to Beach Club Villas last Thursday. I was told the box would be delivered by 9/19/11. I just checked on the USPS site to see where the box might be and it is in Jersey City?!! I shipped from Philly area.

So, question...how long did it take your box to arrive via USPS?? I am worried that it is floating in lala land!!

Depends on what service you used as to what a scan might tell you with USPS. With some of their options you won't see another scan until the evening of the arrival date. So while you might see the last scan as Jersey City, the package is actually somewhere in route, out for delivery or already delivered just and the scan hasn't been uploaded to the website yet.

BWV

After getting conflicting information from switchboard operators at BWV's today, I was connected to a gentleman who works at the Package Center at BWV. He said that they are an outside company that Disney has contracted with to handle packages that arrive at conference resorts. He said that there is charge for UPS & FedEx packages that are sent to BWV or Boardwalk Inn. They charge $3 for small, $5 for medium & $10 for large packages and the fee is based on the package's weight.

Packages that arrive via USPS are sent to a separate area of the property, then sent to Housekeeping & therefore are not subject to fees.

I have read through all posts and unless I missed something, I haven't found the answers to these 2 questions. Does anyone know about these? Thanks!

I don't know how much this will help, but we just got back from Disney yesterday and here's what I did for shipping a box:

I found a box at work, it was probably 25" x 18" x 14". I packed with my various items (diapers, swim diapers, snacks, Halloween costumes, toddler utensils, night light, sippy cup, toiletries, ect). I also packed a roll of packing tape that was almost gone.

We flew out on Oct. 27, which was a Thursday. I shipped my box UPS on the Thursday before that, Oct. 20. When I shipped the box, I also printed a return shipping label and brought it with me.

When we arrived at POR and checked in, the cast member informed me that I had a box from UPS and that they would deliver it to my room shortly. When we got to the room, I think it was maybe 20 minutes before they brought the box. I signed for it and that was that.

Then, the night before we left, we packed the box back up with unused diapers, snacks and all of our purchases. Then I used the packing tape to tape up the box, put the return label on the box and brought it down to the front desk, although the girl I gave the box to seemed clueless as to what was going on, I just tracked my box about an hour ago and should arrive on Tuesday. The concierge did tell me that even if who I talked to had no idea what to do, eventually someone would come in that would know what to do - he was right :)

Now my sister, didn't plan ahead and needed to ship a box back to her house because she bought too much and it wouldn't fit in her bag. So, this is what the concierge told me:
If you need to ship something back, you can to the gift shop and ask for a box, pack up the box and then bring the box down to the front desk. They will tape it up for you, weigh it and contact the mail room to print a label to ship the box back to you. there is a $5 handling fee from the front desk and a $5 charge from the mail room for this service.

The benefit of printing a return label is that 1) you don't have to pay the handling fee, and 2) if you are like us and are packing up your box at midnight, you don't have to worry about not having the mail room open to print your label for you.

Hope this helps to answer some questions about shipping back.

Lots of great advice about this here.

Please note - Resorts tagged with (*) indicate a convention resort where you may be charged a fee for your package to be delivered.

If you have any issues with shipping, I encourage you to call the posted resort number to confirm the shipping address.

Great info I was just buyin from Wallmart to deliver to All Star Music, but I don't think I can choose the delivery company??

I was planning on shipping a box to my resort ahead of our trip and have been reading through this thread for the past couple days. But, then I realized that, since we're flying Southwest, we each have 2 checked items allowed. This may be a silly question, but since I don't fly much, I don't know the answer....Can I check a box on an airline? This would be so much cheaper than shipping it through UPS.
