Close to Universal

This vacation we are planning on going to Universal. I have noticed that most homes for rent, as well as places such as Windsor Hills are down by Kissimee. Most places advertise as being close to Disney, which is true. I know we could just do the 1/2 hour drive to Universal, but for now, we would like to just try to be closer to universal itself.
What I need is off site, at least one bedroom (we dont share rooms with our kids) for Spring break, without breaking the bank. Westgate has many studios available, but not one bedrooms. What other options do we have around the Universal area?

Vista Cay is probably the closest condo community to universal.
Are you looking for spring break this year? That may be tricky since it's so close.

I'm not sure about condos but we are staying at the Sheraton Four Points. It is about 1/2 mile from US. We are are family of 5 and got the hotel plus the 7 day unlimited pass to US/IOA for just over $600. We will be there from 4/21 to 4/26, which is our spring break.

You can submit an inquiry on the site. Be sure to tell them that you're looking for discounted last minute prices (assuming you mean this Spring Break). Anyone who is interested will send you a quote. I've gotten some great quotes there for holiday weeks (for example, less than $600 for Thanksgiving week 2007).

The community is gated and upscale. You can take Universal Drive straight to Universal and avoid the traffic on International Drive. I don't think they have 1BR units - just 2BR and 3BR.

that vistacayrents was really good and i got some leads from it. I ended up finding a deal at Bonnet Creek. We are really excited about that. I know its much closer to Disney (LOL, not going there this time), but has many amenities that we will enjoy.

you will be in the middle of Disney property - it is next door to CBR and Pop century - so your kids will see WDW and heard it - fireworks. So staying away from WDW while being so close - might be a problem.

the I4 (before Gaylord) is what I take to get to US/IOA - it is fairly quick and so far no bad traffic problems.
