Close to Purchase but have another question

We are close to our purchase at SSR (September UY). Let's say we want to go to Disney this June but want to stay at BCV. Let's say there is nothing available for the week we are interested in. What happens if we make a ressie at another DVC resort for that week and later something opens up at BCV? Could we change our ressie? If so, how late can we change it and what are the penalties (if any)?

Yes, you can go on a wait list, and there are no penalties.

You may change your reservation as often as you like right up until the day you arrive. There are no penalties/fees to cancel or make changes - but if the reservation you end up with is less points than the one you cancel, the excess points could end up in the holding account if you make the change/cancel 30 days or less prior to arrival.

Holding account points have restrictions on use. They may not be banked and expire at the end of the use year. They may only be used to make a reservation that is 60 days or less from the date you call. Availability is often very limited 60 days or less from arrival, so holding account points are not desirable.

As long as you make your changes at least 31 days prior to arrival, you have no worries about the holding account.

Great. Let's say that we make our ressie with the other resort and go on the waiting list with BCV, then decide to take others with us. So we need a bigger unit (which would require us to borrow from next years points). How would that work? Would we call MS and say, we still want to stay on the waiting list for BCV but we now want a bigger unit. Can we also tell them that if we get the bigger unit, we want to borrow the additional points from next year or purchase them from another member? Or do we have to have the additional points already available in our account?

You just call MS and tell the CM that you don't want to be on the waitlist for the 1 bedroom at BCV anymore. Then you ask to make a reservation for a 2 bedroom. Maybe there is one available. If so, you tell MS that you want to cancel your back up reservation, use those points and borrow whatever else you might need to make the 2 bedroom reservation. you can only borrow one use year ahead, and you can't actually borrow unless you are making a reservation.

If there isn't a 2 bedroom available, you can ask to go on the waitlist for that. Then you wait. If it becomes available, you cancel the back up, etc.

I fyou don't want to borrow or need to purchase the points from another member, then the points have to be in your account before you can make the reservation.
